Rohman, Jagodzinske gain national wrestling semifinals

Jaxson Rohman

FAIRMONT — Two All-American collegiate wrestlers from the same small high school program in south-central Minnesota.

Former Martin County Red Bull grappling standouts Blake Jagodzinske and Jaxson Rohman both will earn that lofty athletic status when they return to the mats at their respective national wrestling tournaments today.

The No. 5-seeded Jagodzinske (19-6) of Augsburg University (Minneapolis) will square off against No. 1-seeded Nolan Hertel of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in one of today’s 11 a.m. 157-pound semifinals in the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships at the La Crosse Center in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Jagodzinske generated three consecutive victories during Friday’s preliminary, full first round and quarterfinals, respectively, to remain in the hunt for national gold.

The Sherburn native recorded a fall over Ithaca’s Wenchard Pierre-Louis in 3:24 during their opening clash before needing only a mere 1:06 to dispose of Alvernia University opponent Jason Rezac during the first official round.

Jagodzinske continued his championship quest by posting an 11-8 decision over No. 4-seeded Ryan Smith of Stevens in the 157-pound quarterfinals on Friday night.

No. 2-seeded Cooper Pontelandolfo of New York University squares off against No. 3-seeded Peter Kane of Williams College in today’s Division III 157-pound national semifinal opposite of Jagodzinske and Hertel.

In the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in Wichita, Kansas, Rohman will earn All-American grappling accolades for a second consecutive season.

The Augustana University 125-pounder, who captured runner-up national honors in 2023, produced back-to-back winning decisions at 125 at the Hartman Arena mats on Friday.

The Trimont native pinned Jacob Tangpricha of Central Missouri in 2:18 during their opening-round clash before sending Dayson Torgerson of Colorado Mesa to the wrestlebacks by posting an 11-4 decision over him in Friday’s national quarterfinals.

The No. 4-seeded Rohman (21-4) squares off against No. 1-seeded and unbeaten James Joplin (29-0) of Lander in an 11 a.m. 125-pound Division II semifinal back in Wichita, Kansas, today.

No. 2-seeded Shane Corrigan (30-2) of Wisconsin-Parkside will tie up with No. 3-seeded Christian Mejia (29-4) of McKendree College in the semifinal opposite of Rohman and Joplin.
