Leave a legacy that supports children and education

To the Editor:

Dear Friends,

I am writing to share my thoughts on supporting the referendum to build a new school.

A building project will bring excitement to our district. It will attract and will keep young families. They are vital to our communities. They deserve the best we can give them.

Maynard and I have been blessed, but have not given a lot to our school. It is our turn! We want to pay it forward. What better legacy can we leave than this? It is our privilege and responsibility to support education within our community.

In 1959 I entered the Sherburn school as a freshman. The building was 3 years old. That makes the present building 68 years old. My parents, Phil and Velma Bredberg (farmers) joined in paying for this building.

There are so many repairs that need to be made that it is not fiscally responsible to “patch up” this building. The repairs needed for all our buildings are costly. Even if we pass an operating levy later it can only be used for educational activities. It cannot be used for repairs.

We are fortunate to have great leadership from a competent School Board, Administration and Teaching Staff. If you attend events at MCW, you will see them coaching and helping all children. Our School Board has done their work. This started over 2 years ago with a strategic planning committee. Members from all our communities were included, those with young children and those with no children. Students also were invited to participate. The School Board has had many informational meetings and answered numerous phone calls where questions could be answered. They have looked into different ways to best serve MCW. Let’s support them and all our children by passing this referendum.

LEAVE A LEGACY – A LEGACY THAT SUPPORTS CHILDREN AND EDUCATION. Please vote YES. You can vote early at the Central Office located in the MCW elementary building in Sherburn.

Respectfully,

Mary and Maynard Jagodzinske
