Vote ‘NO’ on Martin Co. West school referendum
To the Editor:
Martin County West (MCW) School Board has been asked a number of times to sit down with concerned citizens of the district to look at alternative solutions to spending millions on tearing down good buildings and replacing with a new school building. The first thing that should have been done was an impartial third party feasibility study. Instead, the school board hired a company that builds new schools to come in and tell us what was wrong with our present school building and then spent several thousands of further taxpayer money to hire them to promote their new building proposal. Definitely, a conflict of interest.
The school board shows no concern about the people they are going to hurt financially….the retired people on fixed incomes or the beginning farmers with high debt loads. All of our taxes have already gone up along with inflation affecting our food, electric, fuel, heating, water and other expenses. In light of declining enrollment and higher operating costs, a new very expensive school building seems irresponsible. Please vote NO.
