Steak Fry night Saturday

SHERBURN — Today, May 8, is a busy day in Sherburn. There will be a Lunch & Learn program starting 11 a.m. at the Sherburn Senior Center, with a light lunch to follow. These informative sessions are free to anyone in Martin County. They appreciate a free will donation for the lunch.

There will be a ‘Hamburger Night’ from 6-8 p.m. tonight, May 8, at the Sherburn Legion Hall. Get a burger, salad and beans for only $10.

Tonight, May 8, is the date for the elementary music concert starting 6:30 p.m. at the high school.

**

There is a MCW Care information meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in Dunnell. The referendum election will be held May 14. There are polling places for each precinct and township. Sherburn High School for the City of Sherburn, Jay and Manyaska Townships; Trimont Community Center for City of Trimont, Cedar, Elm Creek, Galena, Waverly and Kimball townships; Welcome City Hall for City of Welcome, Fraser, Fox Lake and Rolling Green townships; Dunnell City Hall for City of Dunnell, Lake Belt and Lake Fremont Townships. Be an informed voter.

Saturday, May 11, is the second Saturday of the month of May so the Sherburn Legion will have their Steak Fry night from 6-8 p.m. You can choose ribeye, shrimp or smoked pork chop and include a salad bar and baked potato and garlic toast for only $20. Sounds good especially for Mom.

Sunday, May 12, is Mother’s Day. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms and those who are like moms to area children.

The Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church will have a lunch 11 a.m. Monday, May 13, at the Lake Belt Bar and Grill in Ceylon. Area residents are welcome to join them for fellowship and food.

Tuesday coffee hours for May continue from 8:30-10 a.m. on May 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Welcome. Area men and women are invited to join them for coffee, goodies and fellowship.

The Regional Worship Center will have a midweek open house beginning 6 p.m. on May 15. They will have activities for all ages, hotdogs and popcorn, and open house to meet the leaders for a fun family night. Plan to attend.

The last indoor Farmers Market will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont. There will be a presentation from Brandt Mobile Greenhouse, activities, lunch and vendors.

Plans are being made to put up the Avenue of Flags at 8 a.m. on May 25, at Sherburn City Park, and take them down after the Memorial Day program at 5:30 p.m. on May 27. Those willing to help should let the Legion members know or show up. This is a unique facet of Sherburn’s Memorial Day to remember freedom isn’t free and many hands make lighter work.

Martin County West Athletes have many things scheduled. on Thursday, May 9, the softball team will battle St. Clair/Loyola at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 10, the golf team will go to Madelia at 1 p.m. and the baseball and softball teams will meet at the Welcome Field at 4:30 p.m. On Saturday, May 11, the baseball team will travel to St. James at 9 a.m. On Monday, May 13, the softball team will play at the Welcome Field at 4:30 p.m. And on Tuesday, May 14, the golf team will play at the Fox Lake Golf Course at 3:30 p.m., the track team will go to Lake Crystal at 4 p.m., the baseball team will play at Windom at 4:30 p.m. while the softball team will play 5 p.m. at Sleepy Eye.

In upcoming events there are field trips and Track and Field Days at the elementary school and many special activities for this summer listed in the MCW newsletter. Wrestling Camp, Co-Ed Basketball Camp, guitar lessons, Volleyball camp and football and baseball camps are a few. There is a Storybook Theatre production in July and preschool registration through August. Check out the many opportunities for learning at the school website martin.k12.mn.us and review the newsletter.

FFA members attended the State Convention and are to be congratulated for their efforts and winnings. MCW was represented well. These are also in the newsletter.

St. John’s Lutheran Church has Vacation Bible School plans for the summer too. There are three year old to kindergarten sessions in June and Camp Omega Day camp in July. Check their newsletter for further information. (church@sjlsherburn.com). St. John’s is also planning a bus trip in August to the Ark Encounter in Kentucky. Area residents are welcome.
