Lions Club says thanks To the editor: On behalf of the Fairmont Lions Club I would like to thank the people who participated at our Fly in Breakfast this past June and our Ring Toss Stand at the Martin County Fair. The funds generated will be forwarded onto local Head Start, Lets Go Fishing, Kinship, and Dollars for Scholars. Funds also will go to the Minnesota Eye Bank, University of Minnesota Lions Hearing Center, and Can do Canines assistance dogs. Witnessing firefighting efforts To the editor: Maybe we have to live through watching something cherished being destroyed by fire to appreciate the effort of those who are fighting to control the devastation of property. This was true when watching the Fairmont Fire Department as they fought the fire of the house on the Anthony Farm. We watched as they fought the fire, working in an organized manner, being obvious with the knowledge of how to use the up-to-date equipment. Praying for families of 13 killed To the editor: Certainly the leaving of Afghanistan by our troops will be talked about for months, even years; it will be overly discussed and analyzed to the nth-degree on talk and news shows. But my prayer today is for all the families who lost loved ones in the 20-year war. To the Editor: As an Emergency Manager, I have dedicated my career to protecting and preserving the safety of people living across our state. But I’m concerned because every year we are seeing increasingly severe weather and flooding. This means, that unless we are building our communities for future risk, we will see more of our friends and neighbors suffering from natural disasters. Mental health To the Editor: People who are having a mental health crisis should be afforded humane treatment. We are in a time due to COVID-19, where may people are scared, anxious, lonely and isolated. We couldn’t join our families for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
