Check out paved trail extension To the Editor: Attention all exercise walkers and bicyclists. Before winter grips our area, be sure to check out the newest addition to Fairmont’s trail network. Starting near the skatepark and the new city shop under construction on Margaret Street, the paved trail travels north with a bridge over Center Creek and ends at the businesses clustered around the I-90 interchange. Get involved To the Editor: I am writing this letter because of great concern for my family, my city, my local schools, my state, and my country. There are a tremendous number of things going on right now that twenty years ago none of us would have ever thought possible. I want them to change. I am no longer willing to sit back and say, “let someone else take care of it.” What if no one else does? Then what? Manage your own household To the Editor: I was able to sit in and listen to Fairmont City Council question the city administrator’s ability to train, welcome, communicate and manage the city staff. The biggest issue they mentioned was communication. If our own city staff can’t communicate within the walls of city hall, no wonder they can’t communicate with us landlords when trying to replace an ordinance that will affect our businesses and “households” for years to come. You Missed It! To the editor: Many of you missed a fantastic performance on Saturday evening at our beautiful Opera House. Their depth and fullness of music was created by 2 violinists, a cello player, a guitarist, a drummer, 2 xylophone players, a vocalist on the keyboard, a trumpet player and 2 more vocalists in addition to the lead — Aby Wolf. Self advocacy conference canceled To the editor: A lot of praying goes on when a loved one is hooked to a ventilator because there is nothing else you can do. Parents of children with disabilities are too familiar with this feeling of helplessness. Because of the large increase of COVID in Martin County, The Arc Southwest has canceled our Oct. 16 self advocacy conference at the Holiday Inn.
