Get involved

To the Editor:

I am writing this letter because of great concern for my family, my city, my local schools, my state, and my country.

There are a tremendous number of things going on right now that twenty years ago none of us would have ever thought possible. I want them to change. I am no longer willing to sit back and say, “let someone else take care of it.” What if no one else does? Then what? I was so disappointed when I heard our school administrators had cancelled the homecoming salute to our veterans and other servants of our communities.

So, this letter is a plea to all our citizens to please pay attention to what is going on and get involved in a way that has influence. All of us have time, treasure and talents that can be given to help combat this predicament that we are in. We either have time to commit, treasure to donate, or talent that can be utilized to help make the changes that are necessary to have a positive influence on the future. You do not need to do something on a grand scale, do it on a local scale. Run for school board, county commissioner, township board, city council, it starts at the bottom. We are the bottom. It starts with us.

Our mid-term elections are fast approaching, and we can be effective, but we need to start now. Do your research, vet the candidates and vote for the ones that most closely fit your morals, values, and preferences.

I will be voting for the following: The Second Amendment, because it lets us protect all other freedoms that we have. I am voting for the next Supreme Court Justice that will be appointed. I am voting to protect our electoral college so that my vote counts and California is not making the decision on who is running the country. I am voting for our Law Enforcement who comes running when we need them despite the dangers that they may face. I am voting for the military and the veterans who have fought and died for the freedoms that I enjoy each day. I am voting for the Flag of the United States of America that is so obviously missing from the background these days. I am voting for my First Amendment rights of free speech without censorship. I am voting for my right to attend church on Sunday morning without fear of being arrested. I am voting for a secure border. My family where immigrants to this country just like yours were, but they did it legally and with the desire to acclimate and become a part of this great nation, not bring what they left behind and turn this land into that land. I am voting for the unborn that have a right to life. I am voting for the American Dream and the right to pursue it. I am voting for the good, and against evil. I am voting for the person that best represents these values. I care not what party they belong to for the party does not define the country, we, the American people do. I do not care what the person’s name is or where in the country they come from, if, they represent the values listed above, that’s who gets my vote, my time, my treasure and my talent. How about your T’s? Where are you willing to put them? Decide now, you cannot afford not to.
