Great weekend

To the editor:

It was nice to see a photo of the Cedar Creek Open disc golf tournament in the Sentinel in August. Here is just a little information about the CCO tournament. This was Trevor Boehne’s 15th year as the tournament director. Trevor grew up in Fairmont but lives in Minneapolis with his family. He became impassioned with disc golf when Jon Riggs built the first course in 1996. Trevor and Jon installed the second course in 2006. Trevor then installed the third course in 2017. Fairmont is distinguished for having 3 full 18 hole courses that play for FREE.

Trevor does a fantastic job as tournament director, handling all of the details from preparing the courses (with much from the local disc golf clubs), registration, tracking scores throughout the two day event to distributing the winnings. A big thank you goes to the Fairmont Parks Department for the hard work they do each year in preparing the courses for this tournament. Players comment on this tournament being the best in the mid-west. when registration opened up online, the 214 spots filled in 45 seconds. There are multiple divisions of players with amateurs receiving non-cash prizes. the top pro received $2000 this year.

This tournament is held Saturday and Sunday in mid to late August, rain or shine. The rain just adds to the challenges the players must meet. The pros are mind blowing in their distance and accuracy. Sunday is the wrap up with winners announced in the afternoon. Go to cedarcreekdiscgolf.com for 2022 tournament details.
