Witnessing firefighting efforts

To the editor:

Maybe we have to live through watching something cherished being destroyed by fire to appreciate the effort of those who are fighting to control the devastation of property. This was true when watching the Fairmont Fire Department as they fought the fire of the house on the Anthony Farm. We watched as they fought the fire, working in an organized manner, being obvious with the knowledge of how to use the up-to-date equipment. They trusted others for the backup water as the full tankers waited to fill the need. It is then that you realize the importance good equipment and the effectiveness of the personnel.

We could also feel the concern and willingness of the Martin County.
