Newsletter will be a help To the Editor: Being home, being more isolated from family and friends is wearing. Hope for a less restrictive/safer future in 2021 is coming with the vaccine, but perhaps not fast enough to lessen anxieties and feelings of isolation. Fairmont Community Education & Recreation (CER) and CREST are concerned about these feelings for many of our seniors and vulnerable adults so are partnering to create an activity newsletter, “Keep in Touch,” to help this population feel more connected and active during these challenging times. Thanks and congratulations To the Editor: I wish to thank the citizens of Truman for allowing me to serve as your mayor these last 10 years. It has sincerely been an honor and a privilege. We have had some challenges, but we’ve had many more accomplishments, with a few more on the horizon. Animal Shelter update To the Editor: It’s time for a fall update on what has been happening at the Carl Nettifee Memorial Animal Shelter, operated by the Martin County Humane Society (MCHS). This year has definitely been challenging for everyone. We closed the shelter to the public for several weeks in the spring. Unlike many shelters throughout the state, we chose not to empty our building of dogs and cats. We continued adoptions of our animals on an appointment only basis and it worked very well.
