Fairmont club hockey teams open New Year with wins

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont 12U girls hockey team improved its seasonal record to 15-3-1 with a win and a tie during New Year’s weekend.

Mariel Parish and Halyn Haycraft each produced one goal and one assist to help Fairmont doubled up Minnesota River, 4-2, on Dec. 30 in Le Sueur.

Lexi Haycraft and Maya Earhart contributed one goal each to the winning performance, while netminder Lexi Sundeen recorded 28 saves to garner the win.

Lexi Haycraft netted a hat trick and doled out one assist to help Fairmont pocket a 5-5 tie with Worthington on New Year’s Day in Worthington.

Parish generated one goal and one helper for Fairmont, Halyn Haycraft chipped in one goal, while Sundeen made eight stops.

Fairmont’s 12U girls team opens the New Ulm tournament against St. Paul at 6 p.m. Friday before facing Farmington at 8 a.m. Saturday and Detroit Lakes at 3:30 p.m. later that day. The event wraps up on Sunday.

Bantams

The Carlson Dental Bantam hockey squad posted back-to-back wins last weekend during a split twinbill.

Gavin Kester generated one goal and two assists to help Fairmont edge Marshall, 5-3, last Saturday at Martin County Arena.

Logan Madsen, Noah Meixell, Jase Meade and Dayton Draper each contributed one goal to the winning effort, while Preston Cepress and Hunter Thate distributed one helper each.

Kaden Olson made five stops and Brandon Hector turned away 15 shots in sharing the goaltending duties for Fairmont, which had 40 shots on goal.

Kester chalked up two unassisted goals and Hector earned the shutout by making 24 saves to power Carlson Dental to a 4-0 triumph over Windom last Sunday in Windom.

Meixell and Draper contributed one goal apiece, while Cepress dished out one assist in the shutout.

The Carlson Dental Bantams (8-9) face Northfield at 9 a.m. Saturday in the first round of a tournament in New Richmond, Wis.

Squirt ‘B’

The Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ hockey lineup netted one tie and two wins during ice action last weekend.

Bennett Draper generated a hat trick, Ryder Thate scored once and goalie Van Kollofski tallied 11 saves as Fairmont finished in a 4-all tie with Mankato last Saturday at Martin County Arena.

Thate then unleashed four goals and one assist to propel Fairmont to a 6-5 decision over Worthington ‘A’ last Sunday in Fairmont.

Kollofski delivered one goal and two assists for Fairmont, Emmet Olson chipped in a goal, Bennett Draper doled out a helper and netminder Blakeley Scholl made 18 saves for the win.

Thate kept the hot hockey stick by drilling four goals to engineer Fairmont’s 9-3 rout over Windom last Sunday in Windom.

Draper garnered a hat trick, Eli Meixell contributed two goals, while Kollofski tallied seven stops to round out the winning effort.

The Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ team faces host Albert Lea in the young Tigers’ tournament at 4:45 p.m. Jan 20.

PeeWee ‘B’

The Fairmont PeeWee ‘B’ squad opened the New Year with a pair of wins and a narrow loss.

Kane Wohlhuter generated a hat trick and doled out two assists, while Preston Geerdes produced a game-best four goals to power Fairmont to a 10-3 triumph over Windom on Sunday.

Tyler Pankow supplied two goals and two assists for Fairmont, Blake Thompson chipped in a goal, while Luther Malo doled out one helper. Netminder Kolton Hinz notched 12 saves to earn the win.

Geerdes hammered home three goals and Wohlhuter delivered two goals and one assist to spark Fairmont’s 7-4 decision over Redwood Falls last Saturday.

Ian Obernolte contributed one goal and one assist to the win, Pankow earned a playmaker with three helpers, Hadyn Lillevold doled out two assists and Thompson added one goal. Hinz chalked up 17 saves to claim the win.

Wohlhuter and Geerdes each netted one goal and one assist, but Fairmont dropped a 5-3 decision to Worthington on New Year’s Day.

Pankow added a goal for Fairmont, while Hinz tallied 10 stops.

The Fairmont PeeWee ‘B’ lineup opens the Faribault tournament at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, with the event concluding on Sunday.
