Fairmont girls hoopsters declaw Jaguars

NORTHROP — A dozen Fairmont players reached the scoring column to help the Cardinals overpower the Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther Jaguars, 83-38, during nonconference girls basketball action Tuesday night in Northrop.

Post player Cadee Becker produced a game-best double-double performance of 18 points and 12 rebounds to engineer Fairmont’s fifth consecutive victory.

Rayah Quiring connected on three 3-pointers to help fuel her 14-point effort for the Cardinals to complement her defensive prowess of pocketing five steals.

Brittney Mosloski neared double-double territory by scoring 12 points and grabbing eight rebounds to go with three steals for Fairmont, while Maggy Totzke nailed two more trifectas to help highlight her eight-point night.

Cassidy Schultz contributed six points, Emma Gudahl doled out a game-best eight assists and garnered three steals, while Kate Busche added three assists for the Cardinals.

Fairmont made 33 of 69 field goals overall, including 7 of 23 from 3-point range, and sank 7 of 10 free throws on the night.

Becker and Mosloski helped pace the Cardinals’ 23-17 rebounding edge.

McKenna Benck scored 12 points and pocketed three steals to top the Jaguars, while Katelyn Diegnau delivered 10 points and grabbed five boards.

Bethany Petrowiak supplied six points for the Jaguars, while teammate Mallery Geistfeld chipped in five points and seven rebounds.

Fairmont (15-2) plays host to Big South Conference opponent Pipestone Area at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at Cardinal Gym.

Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther (8-7) plays host to Martin County West at 7 p.m. Thursday in Northrop.

Brylee Miller collected 13 points and seven rebounds to help steer Fairmont to a 55-22 victory over GHEC/Truman/Martin Luther during B-squad action Tuesday night in Northrop.

Nevaeh Rahm netted 15 points and grabbed five rebounds, while teammate Abi Peyman totaled nine points for Fairmont (15-1).

North Union 49, Belmond-Klemme 32 — Naomi Jones and Olivia Von Bank each neared triple-double range to power the Warriors to a 17-point Top of Iowa Conference victory over the Broncos on Tuesday night in Armstrong.

Jones scored 11 points, grabbed eight boards and pocketed seven steals, while Von Bank collected eight points, seven rebounds and seven steals to complement three assists.

Lily Henderson netted eight points for North Union, Cassie Beadle supplied seven points and three thefts, Alivia Charlton pulled down eight rebounds, while Sam Nielsen garnered six steals.

The Warriors hit 16 of 45 2-point shots, 3 of 13 behind the arc and 8 of 14 at the free throw line.

North Union (13-4) travels to Algona, Iowa, on Friday night to face Iowa Class 1A No. 2-ranked Bishop Garrigan.

Boys Basketball

Martin County West 50, Madelia 43 — The Class 1A No. 3-ranked Mavericks improved to 15-0 on the season by fending off Ja’Sean Glover and the Blackhawks during Valley Conference action Tuesday night in Trimont.

Tanner Sinn erupted for a career-best 29 points to go with grabbing seven rebounds to pace MCW’s winning ways.

Zach Anderson supplied 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Mavericks, Mitchell Weber pulled down six rebounds, while Christian Bachenberg doled out three assists and hauled in five boards.

The Mavericks made 13 of 34 attempts from 2-point distance, 3 of 14 behind the bonus arc and 15 of 23 at the free throw line.

Ja’Sean Glover scored 25 points to top Madelia.

Martin County West (15-0) plays host to Mankato Loyola at 7 p.m. Friday night in Trimont.

Nicollet 64, Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain 57 — The Raiders edged the Jaguars by seven points during a Valley Conference clash on Tuesday night in Nicollet.

No individual or team statistics were reported by either team.

The Jaguars (5-) hit the road to Cleveland on Friday night.

North Union 73, Belmond-Klemme 25 — The Warriors exploded for a 30-point third quarter to stampede the Broncos by 48 points during Top of Iowa Conference action Tuesday night in Armstrong.

Aidan Lofstrom poured in a game-best 23 points to complement six rebounds and four steals to pace North Union.

Danyal Fothergill generated 12 points and eight boards for the Warriors, while Nick Schiltz contributed 10 points to the win.

Kyan Jones collected seven points, five steals and three assists for North Union, Logan Odegaard scored seven points, while Preston Guerdet doled out six assists.

The Warriors scorched the nets on 26 of 42 shots from 2-point range for 61.9 percent.

North Union (7-9) faces Bishop Garrigan on Friday night in Algona, Iowa.

North Iowa 72, North Union 66 (OT) — Logan Sabin poured in a game-best 26 points as the Bison outscored the Warriors, 16-10, in overtime to net the Top of Iowa Conference triumph Monday night in Buffalo Center, Iowa.

Noah Hofmann tossed in 15 points for North Iowa, Riley Sabin tallied 11 points, while Brogyn Greensky chipped in 10 points.

Kyan Jones neared a rare triple-double performance by collecting 12 points to complement pocketing 12 steals and doling out seven assists. Jones also grabbed five rebounds for North Union.

Logan Odegaard neared a double-double effort by scoring a team-best 18 points to go with grabbing eight rebounds for the Warriors.

Danyal Fothergill generated 14 points, seven assists and five steals for the Warriors, while Preston Guerdet contributed 11 points, four steals and three assists.

The Warriors made 21 of 46 shots from 2-point distance, 6 of 18 from 3-point range and just 5 of 10 free throws on the game.
