New Ulm outspikes Fairmont in Big South clash

NEW ULM — The Eagles soared by the Cardinals during Big South Conference volleyball action Friday night in New Ulm.

New Ulm captured consecutive game wins of 26-24, 25-15 and 25-16 to sweep the Cardinals.

Sabrina Segar led the Cardinals by serving a perfect 14-for-14 to complement dishing out 12 set assists, while teammate Bryn Miller knocked down three kills.

Cassidy Schultz totaled five kills and four digs, while serving 9-for-10 with three service aces, and Brittney Mosloski led the Cardinal girls with 10 kills to complement a 7-for-7 serving performance on the night.

Kaitlyn Scott dished out three set assists, Madysen Allen dug out three spikes and served 5-for-6 and Natalie Tonne added two kills and three digs to the Cardinals’ effort.

Maddy Schwieger served 6-for-7 and Jaya Johnson went 10 of 10 from behind the service line to complement four digs.

Fairmont (0-5) plays host to St. James Area at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night at Cardinal Gym.

Fairmont took two of three games during B-squad action Friday night in New Ulm.

Fairmont took the opening game by a 25-16 decision, fell 13-25 in Game 2, then claimed the decisive third game, 15-12.

Corene Moeller led the Cardinals with seven kills, while teammate Kynlie Anderson dished out 14 set assists and served a perfect 8-for-8.

Olivia Ortega dug out nine spikes to help the Cardinal defensive effort on the match.

Fairmont fell two games to one during C-squad action Friday night in New Ulm.

New Ulm claimed Game 1, 25-22, then Fairmont rallied to pocket Game 2, 25-14. New Ulm soared back to take Game 3, 15-6.

Ella Klunder served up two aces, while Lillian Martinson dug out three spikes for the Cardinal defense.

Nevaeh Rahm had two service aces and seven kills, while Grace Pendergast dished out five set assists for Fairmont.
