Hutchinson knocks Cardinals out of 3A hockey playoffs

HUTCHINSON — A five-goal first period and a five-goal second frame added up to the Hutchinson Tigers’ 10-0 rout of the Fairmont Area Cardinals during a Section 3A boys hockey quarterfinal Thursday night.

Austin Jozwick reched a hat trick in the first period, while Cam Longie scored twice to build Hutchinson’s first-period advantage.

Jozwick added a first-period assist, while Tristan Hoppe had a first-period playmaker, totaling four assists before the first break.

Jozwick scored again in the second to add to goals from Logan Holtz, Riley Anderson, Hayden Jensen and Nik Johnson.

Holtz collected two assists in the second period and one in the first for a playmaker, while Joey Croatt, Anderson, Brady Knorr and Ty Glaser each had a second-period assist.

Hutchinson outshot Fairmont Area 58-11 in the matchup.

Two of the Tigers’ goals came on power plays, while two came short-handed.

Carsen Musser made 33 saves between the pipes for the Cardinals before relief goalie Tyson Geerdes came in to make 15 stops.

Hutchinson played three goalies. Griffin Telecky made one save, Jacob Huls played nine minutes without a save and Austin Hagen made 10.

Fairmont Area ended its season with a record of 6-19 after winning its first Section 3A playoff game since 2011 on Tuesday.
