Forest City hoopsters sweep pair from North Union

FOREST CITY, Iowa — The Forest City Indians captured both ends of a Top of Iowa Conference girls-boys varsity basketball doubleheader against the North Union Warriors on Tuesday night in Forest City, Iowa.

Erin Caylor connected for three 3-pointers to highlight her game-best 15-point performance to steer Forest City to a 46-26 triumph over North Union in the girls clash. Shae Dillavou contributed 13 points to the 20-point win by the Indians.

Noah Miller netted a game-best 13 points and teammate Riley Helgeson chipped in 10 points to guide Forest City to a 66-37 rout over North Union in the boys game.

Noah Morphew tallied 12 points to top the Warriors’ effort, Jay Heinen scored five points, while Braden Pierce and Gage Madden each all four points.

The Warriors connected on 10 of 27 shots from 2-point distance, 4 of 15 behind the 3-point arc and 5 of 8 at the free throw line.

Chloe Lofstrom netted six points and pulled down eight rebounds to pace the North Union girls team’s effort.

Olivia Von Bank and Cassie Beadle chipped in five points apiece for the Warriors, Sam Nielsen added four points, while Hope Steinberger netted three points, five rebounds and three assists.

The Warriors made only 5 of 25 shots from 2-point range, 4 of 17 from 3-point distance and only 4 of 10 free throws on the game.

The North Union girls team (2-1) and Warriors’ boys lineup (1-2) travel to Estherville, Iowa, tonight for a varsity doubleheader against Estherville-Lincoln Central, with the girls’ tipoff time scheduled for 6 p.m.

The Forest City boys squad (3-1) plays host to Algona tonight, while the Indians girls lineup (4-0) hits the road to Buffalo Center, Iowa, on Friday for a conference game against North Iowa.
