JCC volleyball sweeps Fairmont

JACKSON — The Jackson County Central Huskies pounded out a 25-11, 25-13, 25-11 sweep over the Fairmont Cardinals during Big South Conference volleyball action Thursday night.

Sophie Johnson completed 10 of 10 serves, setter Andrea Westcott distributed six assists and went 8 of 8 at the service line, while Natalie Tonne drilled four kills to top Fairmont’s performance.

Cambrie Anderson made 13 digs to complement 5-for-5 serving for the Cardinals, Chloe Murphy went 6 of 7 at the line, while Cassidy Schultz cranked three kills.

Sabrina Segar doled out three set assists to go with four digs, while Madysen Allen and Kylee Harder chipped in four digs apiece for the red-and-white lineup.

Fairmont (4-18) awaits the results of Wednesday’s Section 2AA seeding meeting for its opening playoff match.

Waseca 3, Blue Earth Area 0 — The Bluejays bested the Bucs, 25-15, 25-19, 25-15, during Big South action Thursday night in Blue Earth.

Brita Hougen smacked six kills and made five digs for BEA, Alicia Machacek delivered three kills and three ace blocks, while Liz Beeler doled out eight set assists and went 10-for-10 serving with four points.

Natalie Huse connected on 12 of 12 serves for six points, including two aces, for the Bucs, Eloise Blair made 15 digs, Gabby Haaland chipped in three kills, while Miya Gustafson went 9 of 9 serving for three points.

Blue Earth Area (1-24) plays host to Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial on Monday.

Belmond-Klemme 3, North Union 2 — The Broncos rallied to squeeze by the Warriors, 21-25, 13-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-13, during prep volleyball action Thursday night in Belmond, Iowa.

Anna Longhenry hammered 12 kills, while Abby Deitering pounded eight kills to complement three aces behind 21 of 23 serving to top North Union.

Chloe Lofstrom delivered five kills, four blocks, 12 digs and two aces behind 15-for-15 serving for the Warriors, while Lily Henderson doled out 27 set assists, made 13 digs and tallied two aces via a 16-for-17 performance at the line.

Olivia Von Bank and Shayla Reese each drilled five kills each, with Von Bank also serving 14 of 14 for North Union and making 11 digs.

Ella Hagebock collected 23 digs and tallied two aces on 16-for-19 serving, while Carys Fuller added nine digs and a 12-for-14 serving effort.

North Union (3-23) travels to Lake Mills, Iowa, on Monday, Oct. 28, for a 7 p.m. Iowa Class 2A, Region 2 playoff match.
