Girls hockey set for 3AA playoffs

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Area Cardinals girls hockey team is scheduled to open the Section 3A quarterfinals against the Marshall Tigers at 7 p.m. tonight in Marshall.

Red Bulls host section opener

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont/Martin County West Red Bulls wrestlers earned the No. 1 seed in the South Division of the Section 3AA Team tournament.

The Red Bulls will play host to three dual sectional meets on Thursday, Feb. 14, at Cardinal Gym in Fairmont. No. 4-seeded Luverne faces No. 5-seeded Fulda/Murray County Central at 6 p.m., with the winner advancing to grapple the Red Bulls in a 7:15 p.m. sectional team quarterfinal.

No. 2-seeded Worthington wrestles No. 3-seeded New Ulm Area in the other 7:15 p.m. section team quarterfinal Feb. 14 in Fairmont.

The Section 3AA team semifinals are set for 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Worthington High School, with the championship meet set for 2:30 p.m. that day.

The Red Bulls also play host to Marshall in the Big South Conference’s dual-meet championship at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Cardinal Gym in Fairmont.

Magic ranked No. 14 in poll

WELCOME — The Martin County Area Magic hold the No. 14 spot in the Class A prep gymnastics state poll this week.

The Magic have generated a top-three meet average of 137.275 points this season.

Martin County Area plays host to the Big South Conference’s final four competition at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 9, in Welcome.

NU boys tip off districts

ARMSTRONG — The North Union Warriors boys basketball team tips off the Iowa Class 1A, District 3 playoffs against Northwood-Kensett at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in Armstrong.

NU girls set for regionals

ARMSTRONG — The North Union Warriors girls basketball lineup will play host to an Iowa Class 2A, Region 2 quarterfinal game at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in Armstrong.

North Union will await the winner of Saturday’s first-round game between Emmetsburg and Manson-Northwest Webster.

FHS-St. James hoops reslated

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont Cardinals and St. James Area Saints boys and girls basketball games, which were postponed on Tuesday night due to the weather, have been rescheduled.

The Fairmont girls hoopsters will travel to St. James on Saturday, Feb. 9, for their Big South game, while the Cardinals boys basketball team will play host to the Saints at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, in Fairmont.
