Cardinals wrap up grid camp

FAIRMONT — Zach Jorgensen and Nate Soelter were selected as the MVPs of Grades 7-9 and Grades 4-6, respectively, during last week’s Cardinal football camp in Fairmont.

Jorgensen also won the 8th grade’s obstacle course and Iron Man challenge, while Soelter captured the 40-yard dash, won the obstacle course and garnered the Iron Man challenge for the 6th grade.

Gavin Rodning pocketed the hustle award for Grades 7-9, while Hudson Artz netted the division’s Mr. Ultimate Football award. Hank Artz and Haden Toomer earned the hustle and Mr. Ultimate Football awards, respectively, for Grades 4-6.

Rodning (8th), Carson Musser (7th), Blaze Geiger (6th), Toomer (5th) and Nolan Anderson (4th) topped the camp’s punt, pass & kick competition, while Dakota Wiley (4th), Hank Artz (5th), James Johnson (7th) and Hudson Artz (8th) won their respective 40-yard dashes.

Cole Brockman (4th), Elijah Johnson (5th) and James Johnson (7th) conquered the obstacle course, while Mason Vote (4th), Hank Artz (5th), Jacob Singleton (6th), Sawyer Tordsen (7th) and Kaiden Miller (8th) won the tug-of-war.

Kellen Fritz (4th), Hank Artz (5th) and Landon Meyerdirk (7th) topped the Iron Man Challenge to round out the Cardinal Camp.

Deadline for fall Tuesday

FAIRMONT — Online registration for Fairmont Cardinal fall activities is now open.

All students, in grades 7-12, planning to participate in cheerleading, cross country, football, soccer, girls tennis and volleyball should register by Tuesday, Aug. 8.

Registration is open online at the school website: fairmont.k12.mn.us. Fees can be paid at the school website or in the high school activities office.

Students can receive early bird fees by paying by Tuesday. Those costs are $135 for high school football; $130 for high school cross country, girls tennis or volleyball; $120 for high school cheerleading; and $70 for junior high football, cross country, girls tennis and volleyball.

To pay fees or to turn in a sports physical examination, stop by the Fairmont High School activities office from 3-7 p.m. Monday or Tuesday.

It is important to register by Tuesday so that coaches can contact participants with practice information, and students can be cleared as eligible for the first day of practice.

Fall activities fees after Friday, Aug. 11, will be as follows: high school football, $155; high school cross country, girls tennis and volleyball, $150; high school cheerleading, $140; and junior high football, cross country, girls tennis and volleyball, $90.
