B.E. Area baseball outslugs JWP, 9-7
BLUE EARTH — Zac Schonrock went 3-for-4, including a two-run home run, to produce a game-best four RBIs in guiding the Blue Earth Area Bucs to a 9-7 non-league baseball victory over the Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton Bulldogs on Monday in Blue Earth.
Schonrock also pitched the final 1 1/3 innings to earn the save. Schonrock allowed one hit, struck out one, walked one and didn’t allow a run in relief.
Kaylan Legred went 2-for-3, including a three-run double, and scored a run for the Bucs, while Caelan Sanders went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
Logan Jahnke went 1-for-1 with a pair of runs scored, Chris Sanders singled and scored, while Jesus Quintero added a hit.
Spencer Heitkamp and Josh Janike each went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored one run apiece to top the Bulldogs.
Jahnke started on the mound for the Bucs, allowing two runs — one earned — on three hits, struck out seven and walked two in 4 innings pitched to receive no decision.
Bobby Lindsey worked 1 1/3 innings of shutout relief, giving up two hits, while fanning one and walking two for BEA.
JWP starting pitcher Chad Guse allowed six runs — five earned — on seven hits, struck out two and walked four in 4 1/3 innings.
Alex Kjolstad gave up three runs — two earned — on two hits and walked two in 1 2/3 innings of relief to take the loss.
Blue Earth Area (8-11) travels to New Richland today for a 5 p.m. nonconference game against the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers.
Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton (14-6), the No. 1 seed in the Section 1A, West Sub-Section playoffs, plays host to Glenville-Emmons/ Alden-Conger at 5 p.m. Thursday in a postseason opener in Janesville.
