MCW nets 300th win for Ziegler

MADELIA — Martin County West Maverick ace right-hander Sierra Williamson fired a two-hit complete-game gem to shut out the Madelia/Truman Jayhawks, 15-0, in a six-inning Valley Conference softball game on Thursday in Madelia.

The 10-run rule victory proved the 300th of Martin County West mentor Darrell Ziegler’s impressive prep softball coaching career.

Sierra Williamson displayed stellar command of the strike zone by recording a game-best eight strikeouts while issuing only one walk in six innings of work to earn the pitching decision.

Jenna Steele went 3-for-5 with a triple and a double to generate a game-best four RBIs and scored once for the Mavericks, while teammate Jordan Stahl went 4-for-5 with one RBI.

Alyssa Williamson went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored for MCW, while Mercedes Moeller singled, doubled and crossed the plate three times.

Syndee Hein went 1-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored for the Mavericks, Hannah Olson went 1-for-1 with one RBI, Sierra Williamson went 1-for-4 with a run scored, while Eivey Kuehl scored three runs and drove in one more. Savannah Longton added two runs scored and Madison Klima crossed the plate once.

Brytni Drevlow doubled and Carissa Caraway singled to account for the Jayhawks’ only two hits of the game.

Courtney Davis started inside the pitcher’s circle and allowed six runs — four earned — on six hits, walked four and struck out three in two innings to take the loss.

Jessica Baumgartner gave up six runs — four earned — on four hits and walked two in 3 1/3 innings of relief for the Jayhawks.

Madelia/Truman (4-15) faces Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial, while Martin County West (12-5) plays Mankato Loyola in 4:30 p.m. Valley Showcase games today at Caswell Park in North Mankato.

Heron Lake-Okabena 22, Martin Luther/GHEC 20 — The Wildcats outlasted the Jaguars in a nonconference slugfest, that featured 35 hits, on Thursday in Okabena.

Faith Kazemba went 4-for-4 with a home run and a triple to pace the Wildcats’ 16-hit effort, while Tessla Crowell contributed three hits to HLO’s winning ways.

Sarah Shane went 4-for-5 to top the Jaguars’ 19-hit performance and added one RBI, while Marissa Steinhaus collected three hits and three RBIs.

Lizzie Oothoudt and Sadee Ziemer each produced three hits and two RBIs for MLGHEC, Lydia Studer tallied three hits and one RBI, while Michaelah Petrowiak drove in two runs with two hits.

Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain (3-15) plays Alden-Conger at 4:30 p.m. today in a Valley Conference Showcase game at Caswell Park in North Mankato.
