DeWitt’s 21 propel Fairmont to hoops win over Windom

WINDOM — Fairmont guard Abby DeWitt poured in a co-game-high 21 points to propel the Cardinals to a 55-52 victory over the Windom Area Eagles during Big South Conference basketball action Tuesday night in Windom.

DeWitt also distributed a game-high five assists and pocketed three steals for Fairmont, while teammate Claire Cutler produced a double-double performance of 11 points and a game-best 15 rebounds.

Lexi Lunn generated 10 points and garnered three steals for the Cardinals, Taylor Crissinger contributed nine points and four steals to the triumph, while Brooke Hunwardsen chipped in three points and doled out four assists.

Fairmont connected on 18 of 35 shots from 2-point range, 4 of 19 behind the 3-point arc and 7 of 19 at the free throw line.

Madison Maras scored a co-game-high 21 points to top Windom Area.

Fairmont (1-2) plays host to Blue Earth Area at 6 p.m. Friday night at Cardinal Gym.

Windom Area posted a 37-26 win over Fairmont during B-squad action Tuesday night in Windom.

Jen Moeller scored seven points to top the Cardinals (0-3), while Jenna Gustafson supplied six points.

Fairmont hosts Blue Earth Area at 7 p.m. Thursday night.

Martin County West 64, Cleveland 37 — Alyssa Williamson went 3 for 4 from the 3-point line to accumulate 25 points in the Mavericks’ Valley Conference win over the Bulldogs on Tuesday in Cleveland.

Williamson paired four assists with her team-high scoring performance. Hunter Wrightson added nine points, while Sierra Williamson finished with eight points and a team-best 10 rebounds.

Maia Taylor contributed six points and six assists, and Karlee Thiesse grabbed seven rebounds in the victory for MCW.

The Mavericks made 29 of their 61 shots from the floor, including 25 of 52 attempts from 2-point territory.

Martin County West (2-0) hosts Alden-Conger at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Trimont.

North Union 61, Forest City 42 — Breanna Anderson used 11 points and six rebounds to lift the Warriors over the Indians during Top of Iowa Conference action on Tuesday in Armstrong.

Alexis Valvick chipped in 10 points on 4-for-8 shooting, while Hallie Reese — who also made 4 of 8 shots — scored nine points in the win. Samantha Hagedorn had a team-leading seven assists with four steals, six rebounds and seven points.

Kate Anderson crashed the boards for six rebounds in addition to scoring eight points for the Warriors, who made 20 of 52 shots from the field and went 17-for-27 at the free throw line.

North Union (3-0) plays Estherville-Lincoln Central on Thursday in Estherville, Iowa.

Boys Basketball

Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain 54, United South Central 45 — The Jaguars used a 33-point second half to record the comeback victory over Rebels during non-league action on Tuesday in Wells.

The Jaguars were down 35-21 at the half.

Zayne Engel recorded a third consecutive double-double with 19 points and 11 rebounds to top the Jaguars. Derek Shoen neared double-double territory with 18 points and seven rebounds.

Mason Maloney added 13 points and seven rebounds for the Jaguars, who went 19-for-44 from the field and 13-for-21 from the foul line.

Ryan Kloos and Kyle Brandt both scored 13 points for the Rebels, with Kloos contributing six rebounds. Justin Dallman knocked in 12 points. Overall, the Rebels made 19 of 57 shots from the floor, including 8 of 23 shots from behind the 3-point arc.

Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain (2-1) travels to Nicollet on Thursday.

Forest City 59, North Union 36 — The Indians took a 23-point win over the Warriors during Top of Iowa Conference play on Tuesday night in Armstrong.

Nathan Eaton led the Warriors in scoring with 10 points, along with four rebounds. Trent Pedersen provided the team with nine points, five rebounds and four steals.

Parker Oleson went 3-for-6 from the field to net seven points for the Warriors.

North Union (1-2) travels to Estherville, Iowa, to play Estherville-Lincoln Central on Thursday.
