Norman twins top All-Area team

BLUE EARTH – The sister-sister connection is strong when it comes to twins Alissa and Lindsey Norman. The all-Big South Conference and three-time starting juniors provided a 1-2 power punch for the Blue Earth Area Bucs volleyball team. Setter Alissa Norman distributes the ball, while middle hitter Lindsey Norman smacks down the kill.

To be more precise, Lindsey Norman smacked down a Bucs-leading 215 kills to complement 107 digs and 73 blocks this season. She also added 12 ace serves.

Meanwhile, Alissa Norman recorded 642 set assists for the Bucs, while also managing 22 aces from the serving line. On defense, she recorded 154 digs and 25 blocks on the season to earn a third straight appearance on the All-Area team.

The Bucs finished second in the Big South’s East Division, and lost a 3-2 decision to St. Peter during the Section 2AA, South Sub-Section semifinals en route to a 19-11 record.

Due to their successful combination, the Norman sisters are the 2016 Sentinel All-Area co-players of the year for volleyball.

Here are the rest of the members of this year’s All-Area team.

Samantha Barslou (Blue Earth Area) -The outside hitter topped the Bucs with 182 digs, in addition to 25 blocks, earning her spot on the all-Big South Conference team.

Barslou tallied 168 kills and 24 ace serves to close out her prep volleyball career.

Courtney Williams (Fairmont) – The all-Big South Conference middle hitter led the Cardinals with 192 kills and 239 serve receives, and was named both the team’s most valuable player and most valuable offensive player for the year.

Williams finished her junior season with 66 blocks, 93 digs, 19 assists and seven service aces.

Bailee Swanson (Fairmont) – The right-side hitter/setter provided the Cardinals with 133 kills this season, second only to Williams, in addition to putting up 88 set assists with 128 made serve receives.

Swanson also notched 31 serving aces, 154 digs and 46 blocks in her sophomore season to garner all-Big South Conference honorable mention accolades.

Madison Klima (Martin County West) – The two-time All-Area pick led the Mavericks’ defensive effort with 328 digs in 68 games as the team’s starting libero.

She added 29 aces for a .936 serving percentage and earned a spot on the all-Valley Conference second team to wrap up her sophomore campaign.

Maia Taylor (Martin County West) – The versatile junior served as a setter, outside hitter and middle hitter for the Mavericks, totaling 50 kills, 66 digs and 52 blocks over 68 games.

Taylor distributed a team-high 290 set assists and nailed 14 aces with a .938 serving percentage.

Alexis Brummond (Martin Luther/ Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Truman) – The all-Valley Conference selection was a key component to the Jaguars’ defense, recording 458 digs.

Brummond also reached 1,000 career digs during the season to end her prep career with 1,338.

The senior libero added 16 aces, marking a .909 serving rate to go along with 10 kills as the Jaguars finished the season with a 15-11-1 record.

Kenlie Pytleski (Martin Luther/GHEC/Truman) – The middle hitter provided the Jaguars’ offense with 250 kills during her senior season, averaging a team-leading 3.09 kills per game.

Pytleski also contributed 52 solo and 43 assisted blocks for 347 points along with 20 digs to end her prep volleyball career.

Marissa Steinhaus (Martin Luther/GHEC/ Truman) – The senior outside hitter helped the Jaguars’ defensive effort with 339 digs for an average of 4.29 per game. Steinhaus notched 12 total blocks and had a .945 serving percentage to accumulate 30 aces.

Steinhaus added 138 kills and 19 assists on offense for the Jaguars.

Olivia Marlow (North Union) – The senior outside hitter powered her way to a Warrior-best 196 kills in 81 games as North Union ended its season with an 18-13 record.

Marlow had a .863 serving efficiency, which included 34 aces, and contributed to the Warriors’ defensive effort with 184 digs and 18 total blocks en route to earning Top of Iowa Conference first-team accolades.

Anna Ingalls (North Union) – In her final prep volleyball campaign, the Warrior libero led the team with an average of 3.54 digs per game to record 287 digs on the season.

Ingalls recorded a .929 serving percentage on the strength of 30 aces to earn a spot on the Top of Iowa Conference second team.

Kate Anderson (North Union) – The junior outside hitter led the Warriors with 35 service aces, hitting .909 at the line.

The Top of Iowa Conference honorable mention netter totaled 100 kills, had 2.8 assists per game for a total of 362 assists and chipped in 126 digs in 81 games played.
