Area sports postponed, cancelled

FAIRMONT – Six area high school sporting events were either postponed or cancelled Thursday due to heavy rains and thunderstorms.

The Fairmont Area Cardinals girls soccer team’s game at Waseca has been postponed, and will be rescheduled at a later date.

The Fairmont Area Cardinals boys soccer lineup’s contest against Waseca @ Kot Soccer Complex in Fairmont was called off, and will be reslated at a later date.

Fairmont and Martin County West/Martin Luther cross country runners were scheduled to compete in the Turkey Trot Invitational at Prairie View Golf Course in Worthington. The invitational was cancelled.

Blue Earth Area and Madelia/Truman/Granada-Huntley-East Chain harriers were set to compete in the Maple River Invitational cross country meet at Daly Park in Mapleton. The competition was cancelled.

The Blue Earth Area girls tennis team’s dual meet against St. Peter at Schroeder Courts in Blue Earth has been postponed to Monday with a 4:30 p.m. start.

FHS runners No. 15 in national poll

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals girls cross country team earned a spot in a national online poll on Thursday.

Fairmont, who holds the No. 2 spot behind Perham in the Minnesota Cross Country Coaches Association’s rankings, netted the No. 15 spot in the latest XCNation.com poll.

Both Fairmont girls and boys runners play host to the Cardinal Invitational at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Cedar Park in Fairmont.
