Hockey registration available online

FAIRMONT – Area players can register for the 2016-17 Fairmont Hockey Association season online at: fairmont.pucksystems2.com.

Click the red ‘register now’ button to access all of the association’s information pertaining to the upcoming season.

The deadline is 11:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23.

Fairmont to hold tailgate prior to tilt

FAIRMONT – The Center for Specialty Care is sponsoring the first tailgate of the prep football season Friday night at Mahoney Field in Fairmont.

The event will feature a pork chop on a stick, chips and a drink for $5, and will be served from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday. Proceeds from the tailgate will benefit the Fairmont Booster Club.

Fairmont plays host to Tri-City United at 7 p.m. Friday in its home-opener.

Fairmont climbs to No. 5 in grid poll

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals climbed two spots to No. 5 in this week’s Minnesota Associated Press’ Class 3A state football poll.

Jackson County Central and Luverne, two of Fairmont’s Section 3 rivals, held the No. 4 and 9 spots, respectively, among Class 3A voters.

Tri-City United, Fairmont’s South Central Red District opponent on Friday, climbed one spot to No. 1, while fellow district foe Belle Plaine stayed at No. 6.

District rival Marshall, Fairmont’s Week 4 opponent, moved up one position to No. 3 in Class 4A.

Cardinals’ JV tennis team loses dual

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals junior varsity girls tennis team dropped a 7-3 dual meet to the New Ulm Eagles on Tuesday in Fairmont.

Lauren Green and Marina Speckman captured a 4-2, 4-2 victory against New Ulm, while Lydia Thatcher and Natalie Abel teammed for a 4-3-4-1 win. Madi Hagen and Ellie Hernes combined to post a 4-3, 4-3 decision to complete the Cardinals’ scoring.

Fairmont travels to River Valley today.
