Thoughts after the elections To the Editor: I assume most of you feel the same way I do about the elections. I am so glad they are over. Everything didn’t turn out the way I wanted but we must move on. Now the community needs to come together and heal wounds suffered by all those who worked so hard for their favorite issues. Chamber names new president Congratulations to Kandi Menne for being named the Fairmont Area Chamber of Commerce’s new President. Menne has worked at the chamber for over seven years. Every year on this day donations are made to Minnesota causes that are working to improve the quality of life in Minnesota. Most bang for the buck To the Editor: Gyms: Gyms are a great and healthy way to get out of the house year round. Yes, there are weights and machines. There are group activities like yoga and karate too. You never know who you might meet there. Competition: The City says they won’t harm the current gyms. Who will be using the gym equipment the City plans on installing. Subsidized memberships: The City has never offered either gym money to pay for underserved people in the community. Why not? Need or want To the Editor: A need is something necessary to live and function. A want is something that can improve your quality of life. Using these criteria, a need includes food, clothing, shelter, and medical care, while wants include everything else. The proposed community center appears to be a want since it is not necessarily needed for a person to function as is food, clothing, and shelter. Fairmont needs to have manufacturing, retail, technology, education, and housing to have jobs for citizens to live and function. Employment would be the first most logical reason for ...
