FHS ramps up tutoring program

Fairmont High School has increased its tutoring program and currently has 16 students working as tutors this semester. The program also greatly helps students who are English Language Learners. What a great program to bring upper classmen to the aid of younger students.

Scouts aim to educate, build character

This past week was National Scouting Week, which celebrated the 122-year-old organization. Several events happened regionally throughout the week. Locally Boy Scouts is a great program which puts on fun events for both boys and girls to promote scouting. The greater organization also supports a variety of other organizations in the community. It sounds like a great group all around.

Soil health tour shares practices

The I-90 Soil Health Tour stopped in Fairmont this past week at which time two farmers spoke about different practices they’ve implemented into their farming, such as cover crops, strip-till and no-till techniques. What a great conversation for farmers in our area to engage in. Thank you to our own Martin and Faribault County Soil and Water Conservation District which had a hand in bringing the tour here.

Fairmont club focuses on inclusion

Members of Fairmont High School’s Unified basketball team recently played its first game in the Twin Cities. The team was organized by Fairmont Unified Club, which has taken off this school year. The whole purpose of it is to bring together students with and without intellectual disabilities. What a great program for our youth that shows the importance of inclusion and acceptance.
