Fairmont Park Board discusses updates

FAIRMONT– The Fairmont Park Board met Monday night to discuss updates on area park items and introduced the CER Spring and Summer catalog.

At Ward Park, rehab has started on the shelter and the bathroom area. The roof has been torn off and shingles were installed this week. At Gomsrud Park down by the playground the grass is needing to be reseeded, but water is needed before that project can begin.

Another event is the planning of a coordination ceremony for Memory park to be named the Richard S. Bradley park.

Other things that were included in the Park Board update were that pool repairs are slated for the spring and that mowing has begun at the parks in particular at the Fairmont Soccer Fields.

Roni Dauer, director of Fairmont Community Education and recreation, gave a CER update to introduce the 2021 Spring and Summer CER pamphlet. The catalog has already been distributed earlier in March.

Outdoor activities featured in the catalog include Adult Co-Ed leagues, Fairmont Aquatic Park, t-ball, girls softball, tennis and soccer. To see the full updated list of activities you can find them and register for them at the CER Web Store.

There will also be a Fairmont Summer Playground Program. The program is sponsored by the city of Fairmont and Fairmont CER. This program is designed for youth entering grades first through seventh. Current health protocol will be followed for example face coverings and social distancing.

This program will start on June 7 and last until August 13 and be Mondays through Thursdays 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday’s location is to be determined but activities for all days include STEM and marker space activities, crafts and playground activities. Tuesdays in June and July will be at Gomsrud Park and at Ward’s Park in August. On Wednesdays, in June and July, it will be at Veterans Park and in August at Amber Lake Park. On Thursdays, it will be at Sylvania Park in June and July and then at Lincoln Park in August.

The next Fairmont Park Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 18 at 5 p.m.
