Area roundup: Miller’s sharp pitching helps Cardinals beat Windom

FAIRMONT 9, WINDOM 2

WINDOM – Brylee Miller gave up one earned run over seven innings of work to help push Fairmont softball past Windom 9-2 on Tuesday afternoon.

The Cardinals scored seven of their nine runs in the final two innings to put away the Eagles. Bria Williamson had three hits that churned out four RBIs. Miller had a home run in the first inning and two more hits the rest of the contest. The Cardinals ended with eight hits.

Fairmont will take on Luverne this Thursday in a doubleheader starting at 4:00 p.m.

MCW 16, AC/GE 0

WELCOME – The Martin County West softball team scored 11 runs in the third inning to outlast Alden-Conger/Glenville-Emmons 16-0 at Fox Lake Area Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon.

Maddie Carlson and Sydney Clow used a combined effort in the circle to shut out their opponent. Carlson went three innings with five strikeouts, while Clow went one frame with one strikeout. Rowan Faber went 3-3 at the plate with five RBI, three of which came off a three-run home run in the second inning. Faber also had a triple. Ida Rohman also went 3-3 and tallied four RBIs. Lillie Schultz and Emily Schettler each had two hits. Carlson had three RBIs with a double.

MCW will take on Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther on Wednesday afternoon in Welcome.

 

PREP TENNIS

WASECA 5, FAIRMONT 2

WASECA – The Waseca tennis team took down Fairmont 5-2 on Tuesday afternoon. Both Cardinal match victories came in their doubles.

Lilly Ortega and Hudson Clayton took down Larson True and Bryghton Rugger 7-6, 6-0. Parker Olsen and Leander Nelson bested Joe Calhoun and Dawson Goodlander 6-7, 6-0, 10-4.

Fairmont will next play Redwood Valley this Thursday, starting at 4:30 p.m.

 

PREP GOLF

KASOTA – The Fairmont boys golf team placed fourth in the St. Peter Boys Invitational on Tuesday afternoon at the Shoreland Country Club. The Cardinals’ score of 342 was behind Redwood Valley (331), New Ulm (314) and St. Peter (306).

Macklain Anderson secured the top finish for Fairmont. His 81 was good enough for 13th place. Hudson McKean was right behind Anderson, with his score of 84 good enough for 16th. Klay Beemer got an 88 while Jalin Jackson and Aaron Becker got an 89, respectively.

The Fairmont boys will compete in Thursday’s Big South Division Event in Blue Earth.

NORTH MANKATO – The Granada Huntley East Chain/Truman/Martin Luther boys and girls golf teams competed against Alden-Conger and St. James/Madelia at North Links Golf Course on Tuesday afternoon.

The boys took second with a score of 376. Alden-Conger won the event with a 357, and St. James got third with their 400. Jevin Garry was the top Jaguar finisher on the afternoon after shooting an 85 and placing second. Gavin Kester got third with his 87. Logan Zimmer was the other GHEC/T/ML boys’ golfer to shoot under 100, with a 98.

The girls’ team took home the best score on their side of things after shooting a 453. Alden Conger trailed with a 455, while St. James/Madelia notched a 475. Charlotte Berhow continued to impress on the spring season. Her first-place finish was due to her score of 97 on the day. Meredith Miller got fourth after shooting a 113, and Addyson Wiederhoeft placed seventh with her 118.

Both teams will compete at Oakview Golf Course on Thursday.
