Virtual Relay for Life event slated

SHERBURN — Word was received in Sherburn last week of the death of Norm Opheim, a long-time Sherburn resident and much-loved teacher and coach for many years at the Sherburn/Martin County West Schools. His students called him “Mr. O,” and he was a favorite.

Norm and his wife, Marlys, lived in Sherburn for 27 years, moving to Pine City in 1997 after his retirement.

Our sincere sympathy to his family.

Martin County Relay for Life, along with so many other events this year, had to make some changes.

A virtual Relay on Facebook, “Stronger Together Minnesota-Relay for Life,” will be held 6-8 p.m. Saturday on the American Cancer Society MN Facebook page.

Your support for this cause is urgently needed. You may contact your favorite Martin County Relay for Life team to purchase luminarias or to make a donation. Donations may also be taken to US Bank.

Martin County Relay for Life is still planning to hold a drive-through luminaria ceremony Sept. 26 at the fairgrounds in Fairmont. The time and details for this event are still being planned.

If you have questions, please contact Marsha Williams by phone or text at (507) 236-2034.

The money raised through Relay for Life is used to honor survivors, remember loved ones who have died and help give cancer patients the resources needed to continue their fight against cancer.

There is a live 24/7 helpline for cancer patients where they can get information, answers, and hope. The number is (800) 227-2345.
