Warrior baseball finishes season in opening round

SHEFFIELD – The North Union baseball team ended its season this past Friday night during the opening round of the ISHAA 1A, Substate 2 bracket, losing to West Hancock 4-2 at the West Fork Baseball Complex. The Warriors surrendered three runs in the first two innings before adding one of their own in the top of the third. West Hancock added one more in the bottom of the fourth. North Union’s comeback attempt came up short, only scoring one more run in the sixth before the final frame. Casey Rezac and Castor Kollasch each threw three innings for the Warriors, allowing a combined five hits and striking out four. Two of North Union’s four allowed runs were earned. Max Merrill had two doubles for the Warrior offense. Cole Nicoson and Wiley Stevens each had a base knock to wrap up the team’s offensive output. West Hancock’s Cameron Purvis threw six strong innings on the mound. He allowed just four hits, with both of his runs coming unearned. The Eagles will take on Newman Catholic this Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. The winner faces either Lake Mills or Bishop Garrigan on Saturday.
