Fairmont 15U hockey wins regional championship

FAIRMONT — The 2024 Minnesota Hockey 15U South Regional Tournament champions.

The Fairmont 15U girls hockey lineup outscored its three opponents by a combined score of 18-0 to capture last weekend’s regional crown in Woodbury.

Fairmont coasted to a 9-0 quarterfinal triumph over Hastings last Friday, posted a 4-0 semifinal win over host Woodbury last Saturday and flattened Rosemount by a 5-0 decision in last Sunday’s championship clash.

Fairmont (28-5-1), which netted the No. 1 seed in the Minnesota Hockey 15U ‘B’ State Tournament, opens ice action against North No. 2-seeded Grand Rapids/Greenway at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Fogerty Ice Arena in Blaine. The state event concludes on Sunday, March 17.

Lexi Haycraft erupted for a game-leading four goals and added an assist, while goalie Lexi Sundeen pitched a shutout on the strength of eight saves to pace Fairmont’s 9-0 quarterfinal decision over Hastings.

Mariel Parish contributed one goal and two assists to the winning performance, Kynlee Beemer netted two goals, Kennedy Murphy earned a playmaker by doling out three helpers, while Carly Gustafson distributed two assists.

Halyn Haycraft supplied one goal and one assist to the victory, Joslyn Meyer scored a goal, while Lauren Bettin and Avery Kurt tallied one helper each for Fairmont.

Lexi Haycraft wielded the lethal hockey stick again, tallying two goals, while Sundeen turned away 11 shots on net for the shutout to fuel Fairmont’s 4-0 semifinal win over Woodbury.

Artz and Halyn Haycraft generated one goal apiece, while Gustafson, Bettin and Meyer each distributed one assist to ignite the triumph.

Bettin produced a game-best hat trick, while Sundeen denied Rosemount access to the net nine times to power Fairmont’s 5-0 win during the regional championship game.

Murphy and Lexi Haycraft each tallied one goal and one helper in the winning effort, while Gustafson and Parish dished out one assist apiece.

10U Girls

The Fairmont 10U girls hockey team placed second in Pool ‘C’ of the district tournament Feb. 23-25 in Worthington.

Logyn Luhmann lit the lamp twice to pace Fairmont’s opening 9-3 win over Luverne on Feb. 23.

Alayna Kurt, Charlee Koenecke, McKinley Weedman, Ericka Manwarren, Greyson Amundson, Kenzley Tietje and Ellie Steuer each contributed one goal to Fairmont’s winning performance.

Mia Wiederhoeft made seven saves between the pipes for Fairmont, while teammate Trinity Thate recorded two stops.

Steuer unleashed a hat trick and Thate chalked up three saves to net the shutout as Fairmont coasted to an 8-0 second-round win over Redwood Falls on Feb. 24.

Luhmann and Kurt each supplied two goals for Fairmont, while Emersyn Ebeling chipped in a solo goal.

Luhmann connected for a game-high hat trick and Wiederhoeft turned away three shots on net to engineer Fairmont’s 7-1 third-round winning decision over Fairmont ‘B’ on Feb. 24.

Brooke Ruppert, Steuer, Amundson and Manwarren each supplied a goal to Fairmont’s victorious performance.

Okoboji defeated Fairmont by a 7-2 decision in the district championship on Feb. 25.

Luhmann and Ebeling each scored a goal, while Thate and Wiederhoeft netted four and three saves, respectively.

Squirt ‘A’

The Fairmont Squirt ‘A’ hockey team collected third place at the district tournament Feb. 23-25 in Worthington.

Marshall White netted an opening 9-3 win over Fairmont on Feb. 23.

Cheston Aust, Jojo Lopez and Bennett Dorschner each tallied goals for Fairmont, while netminder Higgins Sukalski recorded 14 saves between the pipes.

Luverne then bested Fairmont by an 8-0 second-round score on Feb. 23. Sukalski turned away a game-best 25 shots on net for Fairmont.

Redwood Falls edged Fairmont, 8-5, during third-round action Feb. 24.

Aust netted two goals, while Levi Anderson, Colin Schultze and Lopez each delivered one goal. Jameson Werre chalked up 16 saves for Fairmont.

Lopez erupted for a game-best four goals to steer Fairmont to a 7-6 win over Marshall White during the third-place game on Feb. 25.

Aust produced two goals, while Anderson added one, while Sukalski amassed a game-leading 28 saves.
