Fairmont 15U girls hockey wins Classic crown

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont 15U girls hockey lineup compiled a 3-0 record to capture top honors at the Faribault Winter Classic tournament last weekend at Parise Rink at Shattuck St. Mary’s in Faribault.

Mariel Parish erupted for a hat trick and one assist to power Fairmont to an 8-0 opening-round victory over Mora/Pine City last Friday.

Joslyn Meyer supplied two goals for Fairmont, Lauren Bettin contributed one goal and one helper, while Kynlee Beemer doled out two assists.

Kennedy Murphy and Alexis Haycraft each lit the lamp once, while Halyn Haycraft, Avery Kurt, Harper Artz and Carly Gustafson handed out assists.

Alexis Sundeen turned away eight shots on goal to earn the shutout for Fairmont, which unleashed 29 shots on net.

Gustafson delivered the game-winning goal off an assist from Bettin with 7:36 remaining in regulation to steer Fairmont to a 2-1 semifinal win over Woodbury Gold last Saturday.

Parish netted Fairmont’s initial goal off a pass from Meyer during the first frame. Sundeen finished with 22 saves for Fairmont, which smacked 16 shots on goal.

Bettin collected two goals and one helper to help Fairmont double up the Metropolitans’ A-squad, 4-2, during last Sunday’s championship game.

Alexis Haycraft delivered one goal and a pair of assists, Gustafson chipped in a goal, while Parish assisted on Bettin’s insurance goal during the third period.

Sundeen recorded 26 saves to pocket the win for Fairmont, which tallied 26 shots on net.

The Fairmont 15U girls team (14-5-1) is idle until traveling to Owatonna on Sunday, Jan. 21, for a game against Owatonna at the Steele County Four Seasons Centre.

10U Girls

Ellie Steuer and Logyn Luhmann each produced hat tricks to power the Fairmont 10U girls hockey team to a 12-0 triumph over Waseca during Fairmont Hockey Day last Saturday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Mia Wiederhoeft and Trinity Thate combined between the pipes to earn the shutout for Fairmont.

Greyson Amundson and Kenzley Tietje contributed two goals apiece to Fairmont’s offensive surge, while Charlee Koenecke and McKinley Weedman chipped in one goal each.

The Fairmont 10U girls team is idle until opening the three-day, four-round Rochester tournament against Hopkins at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19.

12U Girls

The Fairmont 12U girls hockey squad lost one game and salvaged a tie during ice action last weekend at Martin County Arena.

Owatonna posted a 3-0 win over Fairmont last Friday. Goaltender Nola Hazard turned away a game-best 29 shots for Fairmont.

Nani Rosario converted an assist from GeminnieRose Lopez into Fairmont’s lone goal during its 1-1 tie with Redwood Falls last Saturday in Fairmont.

Hazard compiled a game-leading 32 saves for the Fairmont 12U girls team that travels to Albert Lea on Sunday for a 6:15 p.m. start.

PeeWee ‘B’

Bennett Draper, Van Kollofski and Colton Schroeder generated two goals each to help guide the Fairmont PeeWee ‘B’ hockey team to a 9-0 shutout over Redwood Falls last Saturday at Martin County Arena.

Kane Wohlhuter and Ryder Thate each contributed one goal and one helper to Fairmont’s winning performance, Carter Spitzer tacked on one goal, while Blakeley Scholl and Johnnie Frerichs notched eight and five saves, respectively, to combine for the shutout.

The Fairmont PeeWee ‘B’ hockey team is idle until traveling to Worthington on Saturday, Jan. 20, for a 2 p.m. game.

Squirt ‘B’

The Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ hockey team posted a 7-1 victory over Redwood Falls last Sunday in Redwood Falls.

Lincoln Cepress amassed two goals and two assists to power Fairmont’s winning effort, while Jackson Haycraft delivered two goals and one helper.

Daniel Trontvet and Nolan Henning each contributed one goal and one assist to the win, Cael Tifft chipped in a goal and Patrick Lockwood dished out a helper.

Bantams

The Carlson Dental Bantams of Fairmont netted a 1-1 mark during weekend ice action at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Preston Cepress erupted for a hat trick and two assists and Preston Geerdes delivered two goals and two helpers to propel Fairmont to an 8-2 win over Sauk Rapids last Sunday.

Caleb Meyer netted two goals, Josh Newville scored once, while Caden Wickert, Hunter Thate, Bryce Ihrke and Ian Obernolte each doled out one assist.

Minnesota River defeated Carlson Dental, 7-2, on Saturday in Fairmont.

Cepress and Hunter Olson tallied goals for Fairmont, while Ihrke distributed both assists.

Kolton Hinz and Kaden Olson combined for 31 saves between the pipes for Fairmont, which opens the three-day New Richmond, Wis., tournament at 9:30 p.m. Friday night.
