FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Martins extended its winning streak to four games after Wednesday night’s 4-3 victory over the Lakefield Horned Frogs at Herb Wolf Field. After dropping consecutive contests to the Pipestone Athletics and Hadley Buttermakers, Fairmont now sits at a 6-2 record.

The Martins took their first lead of the game right before a rain surge delayed the game in the bottom of the fourth. Two hit-by-pitches by Ben Abel and Gavin Rodning were followed by a bloop single from Spencer Chirpich to load up the bases. Bryce Borkenhagen drove in a game-tying hit with a two-RBI single that found the left side of the field. Chirpich finished the frame with a passed ball score to take a 3-2 lead.

After the Frogs tied things up in the fifth, it was up to the bottom of Fairmont’s batting order to win things in the seventh. Nolyn Goerndt’s walk and another hit-by-pitch from Rodning set up runners in scoring position. Zach Jorgenson was the hero of the night, cracking a single to third base that drove in the final run.

Ben Moeller threw the first four innings for the Martins, surrendering one earned run and picking up three strikeouts. Jack Hested closed things out with three frames of shutout baseball. The two combined for seven hits allowed.

Starting at $2.99/week.
