Bike Rodeos on Saturday in Sherburn, Welcome
SHERBURN — The Sherburn/Welcome Police Department will host Bike Rodeos for area children of all ages on June 27 at 9 a.m. at Martin County West High School in Sherburn, and at noon at the Welcome Fire Hall. Area children should bring their bikes, wear helmets and closed-toed shoes. Parents will need to sign a waiver and be present at the event. The children will learn bike safety, bike signals, helmet use, navigate cones and receive a gift bag. Thank you to the department for this opportunity to help children. Officers will be present if there are questions concerning e-bikes and scooters.
The Regional Worship Center in Sherburn will sponsor a special event at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 27. Ian McCormack will be the speaker, who will talk about his life after death experience. The public is welcome to attend.
Healing Hearts Housing in Sherburn will have a Tye Dye Fundraiser at noon on Sunday, June 28, at the Sherburn Community Hall. Bring a t-shirt to dye and the $20 entry fee. This sober house for women is a partner in strong recovery. They have life and recovery coaches, staff, peer support, a gym and a safe place to stay for women wanting a life without the use of alcohol or drugs. The Trimont Farmers Market will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Anderson Park in Trimont. The event will support the Trimont Community Food Shelf. There are children’s activities, lunch, local produce and vendors. Plan to attend this fun event.
Coffee Hours will meet from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. In July, the Coffee Hours will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for coffee, treats and fellowship.
The American Red Cross blood drives will be on June 29, at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome, Trimont Covenant Church and Truman Community Building, on July 2 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Fairmont and on July 9 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Blood supply is always lower in the summer months, but the demand for blood is higher, so give blood if you are eligible (age 16 or older, weigh 110 or more and in good health). Thank you. Your blood donation may save up to three people.
The Mayo Mobile Clinic will be available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, June 29 and Wednesday, July 1. Call (507) 238-8500 to make an appointment and mention the Sherburn Clinic.
Sunday, St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn will have services at 10:30 a.m. But in July, they will change to services at 5 p.m. on Saturdays and continue that schedule through September.
The Sherburn Library has summer activities on Tuesdays with a drop-in arts and crafts activity from 2:30 to 5 p.m. and Storytime on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. Watch for storytime special events at the Sherburn Theatre, like tomorrow, June 25, and Magician Brian Richards on July 9 at 1:30 p.m. and 4H adventure on July 14. The library is located near the City Hall on First Street and Manyaska.
The Civic and Commerce Club will meet on July 2 at noon at Bank Midwest. All members are urged to attend. New members are always welcome. If you would like to help the C&C with expenses concerning the big planters on Main Street, send donations to Box 108, Sherburn, MN 56171.
The City Hall will be accepting affidavits of candidacy for the Mayor (2 years) and Two Council seats (4 years) that will be elected in the November 3 election. The affidavits should be applied for from July 14 to July 28. The city Hall hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. and 7 a.m. to noon on Fridays. Think about becoming a candidate and apply in July.
July 1 there will be a Crest sponsored program at the Sinn Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn beginning at 11 a.m. The program will be questions and answers about funerals, cremation and other subjects for Ean Sinn. This program will also be held at Fairmont on July 13 and at Trimont on July 15. Crest asks that you reserve by calling (507) 235-3833. These programs are free for Senior Citizens from Martin County. Crest does appreciate a free will donation.
Sundaes at the Park continues at 6 p.m. on July 5 at the Triumph Memorial Park in Trimont. The Kittleson Family Band will perform. Plan to attend.
The Friendship Club from St. John’s Lutheran Church will meet for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. on July 6 at the Green Mill in Fairmont. Area residents are welcome to join them. Membership in the club and St. John’s is not required.
St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sherburn will have a Camp Omega Day Camp from July 6 to 10 for children in the area who will enter first grade to sixth grade. The Sunday services at St. John’s are held at 8 a.m. and their partner church, St. Paul’s in Wilbert, has 10 a.m. services on Sunday mornings.
The committee to help the Sherburn Theatre attended the City Council meeting and are accepting donations at the City Hall or mailed to Box 677, Sherburn, MN 56171. Please write Theatre Project on the memo of a check. The Theatre has not been able to show movies for some time since they need to purchase a server for the digital projector, which may cost around $10,000+. The Theatre has been missed by the community and area and any donations would be appreciated.
The Martin County Relay for Life will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. on July 28 at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Note the new location. It is not too soon to gather your teams and fundraise for the American Cancer Society. There will be a meeting for all teams on June 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Pizza Ranch.
