Fairmont 15U hockey glides to showdown crown

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont 15U girls hockey lineup reeled off four consecutive victories to garner the O-Town Showdown tournament championship last weekend in Owatonna.
Alexis Haycraft and Lauren Bettin combined for six goals and five assists to power Fairmont to an 8-1 opening-round triumph over Duluth last Friday.
Alexis Haycraft netted a hat trick and a playmaker by scoring three goals and doling out three assists, respectively, while Bettin chipped in three goals and two helpers.
Kennedy Murphy and Halyn Haycraft each chipped in one goal, while teammates Harper Artz and Carly Gustafson distributed one assist apiece in the win.
Alexis Sundeen made four saves between the pipes to earn the victory for Fairmont.
Alexis Haycraft collected two goals and one assist, while Sundeen notched 15 stops to propel Fairmont to a 4-1 quarterfinal win over Owatonna last Saturday.
Bettin and Murphy contributed one goal each to the winning performance, while Kynlee Beemer doled out one helper.
Bettin converted a double-assist from Alexis Haycraft and Avery Kurt into the game-winning goal with 1:35 remaining in regulation to steer Fairmont to a 3-2 semifinal win over Buffalo last Saturday.
Alexis Haycraft and Halyn Haycraft each netted one goal in the down-to-the-wire clash, while Mariel Parish and Bettin supplied one assist apiece for Fairmont.
Sundeen turned away a dozen shots on net by Buffalo to secure the winning decision.
Parish collected a game-best four goals to complement two assists to engineer Fairmont’s 9-0 rout over the Des Moines Lady Wild during the tournament’s championship clash on Sunday.
Alexis Haycraft tallied two goals, Bettin doled out two helpers, while Joslyn Meyer, Kurt and Murphy each generated one goal each to help fuel the shutout.
Halyn Haycraft chipped in an assist, while Sundeen made four saves in net to garner the win for Fairmont.
The Fairmont 15U team (10-4-1) will be idle until returning to Martin County Arena on Friday, Dec. 29, to play host to Minnetonka at 6 p.m. Fairmont then hosts Chaska/Chanhassen at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, in Fairmont.

Preston Cepress collected a hat trick and Preston Geerdes dished out three assists to power Fairmont to a 5-3 win over St. Michael-Albertville Blue last Saturday at Martin County Arena.
Hunter Olson and Tyler Pankow each tallied one goal, while Caleb Meyer dished out one assist.
Kolton Hinz netted 14 saves between the pipes during the first and third periods for Fairmont, while Kaden Olson notched nine stops during the middle segment.
Geerdes scored two goals and Cepress contributed one goal and three helpers to steer Fairmont to a 4-2 win over St. Michael-Albertville Gold last Saturday at Martin County Arena.
Bryce Ihrke smacked home the initial goal for Fairmont, while Noah Meixell distributed two assists.
Olson turned away 15 shots on net during his two-period tenure, while Hinz garnered 11 stops in his one segment between the pipes.
Geerdes cashed in a double-assist from Cepress and Ihrke to snap a tie and hand Fairmont a 4-3 win over Hutchinson on Sunday.
Caden Wickert, Bryce Roeschen and Meixell each supplied one goal, while Cepress and Hunter Olson connected for assists.
Hinz netted four stops in two frames of action, while Olson denied a dozen shots on net during the second period for Fairmont.

PeeWee Division
Ryder Thate pocketed a hat trick to lift Fairmont to a 6-4 victory over Okoboji last Saturday in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Kane Wohlhuter, Colton Schroeder and Luther Malo contributed one goal apiece to the win, while Eli Meixell and Bennett Draper doled out one assist each.
Blakeley Scholl made seven saves for Fairmont, while Johnnie Frerichs added two stops in the victory.
Wohlhuter erupted for a game-leading five goals to complement one assist to trigger Fairmont’s 8-2 rout over Redwood Falls on Sunday in Redwood Falls.
Thate collected one goal and a game-best four helpers for Fairmont, while Meixell and Kaleb Kennedy chipped in one net-finding blast each.
Van Kollofski recorded 14 saves for Fairmont between the pipes, while Frerichs added one shot on net.
