Welcome Burn Site open on Saturday

WELCOME — The Sherburn/Welcome Police Department will host Bike Rodeos for area children of all ages on Saturday, June 27, at 9 a.m. at Martin County West High School in Sherburn, and at noon at the Welcome Fire Hall. Area children should bring their bikes, wear helmets and closed-toed shoes. Parents will need to sign a waiver and be present at the event. The children will learn bike safety, bike signals, helmet use, navigate cones and receive a gift bag. Thank you to the department for this opportunity to help children. Officers will be present if there are questions concerning e-bikes and scooters.

The burn site for Welcome residents will be open from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 27. Bring only wood that is six inches in diameter or less, brush, grass clippings and branches.

The Trimont Farmers Market will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today, Friday, June 26, at Anderson Park in Trimont. There will be lunch, children’s activities, local produce and vendors’ items.

The American Red Cross blood drives will be on June 29, at St. Paul’s Community Church in Welcome, Trimont Covenant Church and Truman Community Building, on July 2 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Fairmont and on July 9 at Grace Lutheran Church in Fairmont. Call 1-800-733-2767 (1-800-RED-CROSS), visit www.redcrossblood.org or text ‘BLOODAPP’ to 90999 to make an appointment or get further information about blood drives in the area. Blood supply is always lower in the summer months, but the demand for blood is higher, so give blood if you are eligible (age 16 or older, weigh 110 or more and in good health). Thank you. Your blood donation may save up to three people.

Coffee Hours will meet from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 30, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Sherburn. In July, the Coffee Hours will be from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Tuesday at the Regional Worship Center in Sherburn. Join friends and neighbors for coffee, treats and fellowship.

The Martins baseball team will compete against Milroy at 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 28.

A CREST Lunch and Learn program will be from 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 1, at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Sherburn. The program will be followed by lunch. Please RSVP by calling (507) 235-3833. These fun and educational programs are free for senior citizens in Martin County. CREST appreciates a free-will donation.

The Welcome Historical Society Museum will not be open on Saturday, July 4, but museum visit appointments can be made by calling Vicki Nelsen at (507) 236-7081. The museum’s open hours are usually 2 to 4 p.m. on the first Saturday of the summer months.

Sundaes in the Park will be at 6 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, at Triumph Memorial Park in Trimont. The entertainment will be the Kittleson Family Band. If inclement weather, the event will be held at the Sinn Family Celebration of Life Center in Trimont.

Cities in the area have Affidavits of Candidacy for local offices such as Welcome Mayor for a two year term and two Council persons for four year terms. File by contacting the City Hall of the town you want to file for from July 14 to July 28. This will be for the Nov. 3 election.

Trimont Fun Fest will be from July 10 to July 12.
