WELCOME — Nettie Parsons was in total control on the mound for Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial, throwing a one-hit complete game, striking out 12 to lead the Knights past the Martin County West Mavericks, 7-0, in Valley Conference softball at Fox Lake Sports Complex on Friday in Welcome.

The game took only 70 minutes to complete.

“They’re a very good team with good pitching, and our hitters didn’t make the needed adjustments at the plate,” MCW head coach Darrell Ziegler said. “They have some good hitters who squared up the ball. We hit the ball well a few times, but hit right at them.”

Lina Arnold, Emily Anderson and Maddie Carlson hit the ball hard for MCW. Maddie Carlson nearly hit a home run, but her fly ball was tracked down and caught in deep center field.

LCWM used the long ball, hitting three home runs and two doubles to score two runs in the second, third and seventh inning, plus added a solo run in the fifth, compliments of a homer.

LCWM finished with 11 hits with Ella Voges and Liv Harazin collecting three apiece. Harazin homered and drove in a game-best three runs, Gillian Hanson slugged a two-run HR and Voges also homered.

For MCW, Brianna Morrow had its lone hit, a single up the middle in the third inning. Marah Steele bunted Morrow into scoring position, but Morrow was left stranded.

On the mound, Parsons was the winning pitcher and did not walk a batter. She pitched to only three more than the minimum 21 hitters.

Arnold took the loss, giving up seven runs — six earned — on 11 hits, walked one and struck out three. She was able to leave runners in scoring position in the third and sixth innings by inducing a pop out to Emily Anderson at shortstop in the third and a pop out to Cami Clow at first.
