WELCOME — Brylee Miller pitched a complete-game shutout to lift the Fairmont Cardinals to a 2-0 win over Martin County West on Friday in a nonconference softball game.

Miller didn’t have it easy as MCW’s pitcher Maddy Carlson kept the game a pitchers’ duel.

Miller ended up allowing four hits and a walk while striking out 10 in the win.

Makayla Lowry, Gabby Leiding, Maddy Landin and Makenzie Lowry each singled for Fairmont.

Carlson pitched a complete game also, allowing one earned run on four hits and three walks while fanning seven. Carlson also led MCW at the plate with a pair of singles.

Fairmont got on the board early after an RBI grounduout from Abi Sundeen scored Makayla Lowry, who reached earlier on a single. In the third inning, an error on a grounder off the bat of Miller allowed her to scamper to third before Lowry dropped down a sac bunt to bring her home for the 2-0 lead.

MCW’s best bet to score came in the sixth with runners at first and second, but MIller forced an infield pop out and flyout to end the threat.

Fairmont (10-9) hosts St. Peter on Tuesday in a regular-season finale. MCW (10-4) hosts Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda on Monday.
