Fairmont 12U girls hockey wins Shannon Cup event

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont 12U girls hockey team reeled off four consecutive victories to capture the Rochester Shannon Cup Tournament championship last weekend in Rochester.

Fairmont coasted to an opening 11-0 decision over River Falls, skated to a 6-1 second-round win over the St. Paul Capitals, shut out Owatonna by a 3-0 semifinal score and drilled Rochester in the finals by an 8-2 score.

Lexi Haycraft produced a hat trick and added an assist, while Lauren Bettin netted one goal and earned a playmaker by doling out three helpers in Fairmont’s 11-0 rout of River Falls.

Mariel Parish and Kynlee Beemer each collected two goals for Fairmont, Halyn Haycraft generated one goal and one helper, while Maya Earhart and Kylie Flanagan chipped in one score each.

Netminder Lexi Sundeen made eight stops to earn the win for Fairmont, which generated 36 shots on goal.

Lexi Haycraft erupted for another hat trick and Parish supplied two goals to engineer Fairmont’s 6-1 second-round decision over the St. Paul Capitals.

Corinn Wells doled out two assists in the win, Bettin chalked up one goal and one helper, while Flanagan added one assist.

Sundeen earned the win by turning away 22 shots for Fairmont, which took 19 shots on net.

Sundeen then posted six saves to earn a shutout, while Bettin buried two shots into the webbing to power Fairmont to a 3-0 semifinal triumph over Owatonna.

Lexi Haycraft distributed three assists and Earhart chipped in one goal.

Parish and Lexi Haycraft each delivered three-goal performances, with Haycraft also dishing out an assist to power Fairmont to an 8-2 triumph over Rochester in the championship game.

Bettin contributed two goals and one assist to the winning effort, while Kennedy Murphy, Avert Kurt, Paige Hartwig, Earhart, Beemer and Halyn Haycraft each doled out one assist.

Sundeen tallied 15 saves to merit the win for Fairmont, which unleashed 40 shots on net.

Fairmont 12U (28-3-1) plays host to Mankato at 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Martin County Arena in Fairmont before traveling to Kasson on Sunday for a 3 p.m. face-off against Dodge County.

The Fairmont PeeWee ‘B’ team netted a split decision last weekend during ice action.

Preston Geerdes generated four goals and one assist to spearhead Fairmont’s 9-6 victory over Luverne last Saturday.

Kane Wohlhuter produced a hat trick and one helper for Fairmont, Tyler Pankow contributed two goals, while netminder Kolton Hinz recorded 18 saves to net the win.

New Ulm/Sleepy Eye then edged Fairmont by a 6-5 decision last Sunday.

Geerdes produced another hat trick and dished out one helper, while Pankow carded one goal and one assist.

Lucas Kotewa chipped in one goal, Luther Malo doled out two assists, Ian Obernolte doled out a helper and goaltender Blake Thompson turned away 11 shots on goal.

The Fairmont Squirt ‘B’ squad generated one win and one loss during weekend action at Martin County Arena in Fairmont.

Ryder Thate unleashed five goals and Van Kollofski produced a hat trick to power Fairmont to a 13-4 victory over New Ulm/Sleepy Eye last Sunday.

Bennett Draper tallied two goals, while Cheston Aust, Emmet Olson and Eli Meixell chipped in one goal apiece.

Netminder Blakeley Scholl recorded 15 saves to garner the win for Fairmont.

Luverne edged Fairmont, 4-3, last Saturday in Fairmont.

Thate produced two goals, Draper tallied one score and Kollofski made 24 saves between the pipes.

Fairmont plays host to Windom at noon Saturday at Martin County Arena before traveling to Gustavus Adolphus College’s ice arena in St. Peter on Sunday for a 3:45 p.m. game against Minnesota River.

The Carlson Dental Bantams went 1-1 during ice action last weekend.

Gavin Kester produced a hat trick and Klay Beemer contributed two more goals to Fairmont’s 6-4 victory over Redwood Valley last Saturday.

Bryce Ihrke supplied one goal, Preston Cepress distributed two assists and Hunter Olson added one helper.

Goalie Brandon Hector made 19 saves for Carlson Dental, which blasted 51 shots on goal.

Waseca edged Fairmont, 5-3, last Friday night in Waseca.

Dayton Draper and Kester collected one goal and one assist apiece, Jase Meade netted a goal and Hunter Thate doled out an assist.

Kaden Olson recorded 34 saves for Carlson Dental, which fired 23 shots on net.

The Carlson Dental Bantams (10-13) play host to Windom at 3:30 p.m. Saturday and Worthington at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Martin County Arena.
