Area roundup: Cardinal baseball uses late rally to pass Windom
BOYS BASEBALL
FAIRMONT 5, WINDOM 4
FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals rallied from behind to beat Windom 5-4 at home.
The first five innings saw Windom jump out to a 4-0 lead, but the bottom of the sixth provided the relief they needed as singles by Jensen Livesay and Nolyn Goerndt, as well as a double by Joseph Hackett, drove home the necessary four runs to tie up the game.
In the bottom of the seventh, Brayden Williamson provided the spark Fairmont needed, as he hit a pop-up far enough to score the winning run.
Livesay went 1-3 with two RBIs and one run, while Hackett went 1-3 with a run and an RBI and Joe Long went 1-3 with two runs scored. In five innings to start, Long gave up only six hits and had four strikeouts. Nolyn Goerndt closed the game out in the remaining two innings, allowing only one hit and dealing two strikeouts.
The Cardinals (8-3) have their next game Monday May 4 at 5:30 against Tri-City United at the Montgomery Memorial Park Baseball Field.
BOYS TENNIS
FAIRMONT 6, PIPESTONE 1
FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals got the win over Pipestone six matches to one on the Fairmont Tennis Courts.
There were no doubles teams from Pipestone, so the Cardinals won those three matches by default. In the singles, Jonah Vetter beat Brady Dunn 6-4, 6-4, Lilly Ortega beat Mathew Swenson 6-0, 6-1, and Parker Olsen beat Mikah Weets 6-1, 6-0.
The Cardinals have their next matchup Monday at 4:30 p.m. against Litchfield on the Litchfield High School Tennis Courts.

FAIRMONT – The Fairmont Cardinals tied for second at their home meet on the Interlaken Golf Course.
Klay Beemer finished fourth overall with a 76, followed by Hudson McKean in 14th with an 81 and Aaron Becker in 25th with a 86.
The Cardinals have their next match Monday at 2 p.m. for a Big South Divisional Event at the Interlaken Golf Course in Fairmont.

FAIRMONT – At their home meet, Fairmont placed second on the Interlaken Golf Course.
Katherine Zelaya placed second with a score of 87, Leslie Zarling took sixth with a 92, while Carly Gustafson finished 14th with a 99.
The Cardinals have their next match Monday at 2 p.m. for a Big South Divisional Event at the Redwood Falls Golf Course in Redwood Falls.
