Fairmont 12U girls hockey wins own invite

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont 12U girls hockey team allowed only three goals en route to reeling off four consecutive wins to capture the Fairmont Invitational Dec. 16-18 at Martin County Arena.

Netminder Lexi Sundeen recorded 10 saves, while Lexi Haycraft and Mariel Parish combined forces to generate all of Fairmont’s goals in a 7-1 victory over Worthington during the tournament’s championship clash on Dec. 18.

Lexi Haycraft produced a natural hat trick by scoring three of her game-best four goals uninterrupted to close out the opening period.

Parish opened the invite’s finale by netting the first of her three goals off an assist from Halyn Haycraft before Lauren Bettin earned a playmaker by assisting on three of Lexi Haycraft’s four goals. Maya Earhart doled out the other assist to Lexi Haycraft.

Parish capped the championship game’s offensive output by tallying an unassisted goal before finding the twine off a pass from Corinn Wells in the third period.

Parish opened the home tournament by blasting home three goals and distributing one assist, Bettin collected two goals and two assists, while Halyn Haycraft netted one goal and doled out two helpers to pace an 11-0 win over West St. Paul on Oct. 16.

Earhart scored two goals for Fairmont in the first-round contest, while Lexi Haycraft supplied one goal and one helper.

Kynlee Beemer and Kylie Flanagan tallied one net-finding shot apiece, Avery Kurt dished out an assist and Sundeen made 13 saves to earn the win between the pipes for Fairmont.

Lexi Haycraft notched another hat trick, while Sundeen turned away 17 shots on net to earn the shutout as Fairmont iced Woodbury White in second-round action, 4-0, on Dec. 17.

Halyn Haycraft added one goal, while Beemer and Bettin doled out one assist each in the victory.

Parish produced two goals to help engineer Fairmont’s 4-2 semifinal triumph over Redwood Falls on Dec. 17.

Flanagan and Lexi Haycraft chipped in one goal apiece; Bettin, Beemer and Halyn Haycraft distributed one helper each; while Sundeen tallied 17 stops in net to earn the win for Fairmont.

Fairmont (14-3) travels to Le Sueur on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. game against Minnesota River before hitting the road to Worthington on New Year’s Day for a 4:30 p.m. contest against Worthington.

The Carlson Dental Bantams of Fairmont lost a pair of games on Dec. 17-18 on the road.

Worthington edged Fairmont, 5-4, on Dec. 17.

Dayton Draper scored two goals and assisted on one of Noah Meixell’s two net-finding shots for Fairmont.

Kaden Olson turned away 21 shots on net for Carlson Dental, which tallied 24 shots on goal.

The Boji Blizzards defeated Fairmont, 6-1, on Dec. 18, in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Gavin Kester accounted for Fairmont’s only goal off an assist from Preston Cepress.

Brandon Hector recorded 32 saves for Carlson Dental, which generated 19 shots on net.

The Carlson Dental Bantams (6-9) play host to Marshall at 7 p.m. Jan. 7 during “Hockey Day” at Martin County Arena in Fairmont before playing host to Windom at 5 p.m. Jan. 8.

The Fairmont Squirt ‘C’ hockey team dropped two games on the road Dec. 17-18.

Minnesota River White posted a 7-2 win over Fairmont on Dec. 17 in Le Sueur.

Drake Manwarren and Higgins Sukalski tallied goals for Fairmont, while goalie Johnnie Frerichs recorded 14 saves.

The Boji Blizzard shut out Fairmont, 9-0, on Dec. 18 in Spirit Lake, Iowa.

Frerichs made 25 stops between the pipes for Fairmont, which plays host to Minnesota River Blue on Thursday at Martin County Arena before returning to Le Sueur on Dec. 31 for games against Minnesota River Blue and Mankato Grey, respectively.

Fairmont then travels to New Ulm on New Year’s Day to face New Ulm/Sleepy Eye.
