Mavericks top Jaguars in volleyball; Trojans sweep Cardinals

GRANADA — Emily Anderson produced 14 kills, 10 set assists, eight digs and three blocks to help steer the Martin County West Mavericks to a 29-27, 19-25, 25-14, 25-13 Valley Conference volleyball victory over the Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain Jaguars on Thursday night in Granada.

Lucy Larson pounded out seven kills and made a team-leading 23 digs for the Mavericks, while teammate Grace Bicknase distributed 18 set assists to complement seven kills and seven digs.

Aspen Kosbab contributed five kills and 10 digs to MCW’s winning performance, while Marah Steele and Emma Omvig supplied 14 and 12 digs, respectively. Liv Borchardt delivered five blocks in the win, while Bella Lange chipped in four rejections.

Londyn Bowers drilled a match-best 16 kills to complement scooping up 14 opposing spikes to help pace the Jaguars’ effort.

Ella Nagorske doled out 15 set assists, made 14 digs and tallied three aces on 15-for-15 serving in engineering the Jaguars’ attack, while Hayley Stensland dished out 12 set assists.

Johnnie Zaharia recorded a team-best 16 digs, Gracie Zaharia connected on 15 of 18 serves for two aces, while Mandy Pytleski chipped in four kills for the Jaguars.

Martin County West (5-3) competes in the Jackson County Central Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday in Jackson, while the Jaguars (1-7) play host to Mankato Loyola on Tuesday night in Northrop.

Worthington 3, Fairmont 0 — The Trojans swept the Cardinals in three Big South Conference sets, 25-12, 25-13, 25-18, on Thursday night in Worthington.

Brylee Miller blasted seven kills and went 5-for-5 serving to pace Fairmont, while Jazlyn Geerdes supplied four kills.

Kynlie Anderson distributed five set assists, made six digs and tallied two aces behind 11-for-11 serving for the Cardinals, while Grace Pendergast doled out four set assists, scooped up nine spikes and served 5-for-5.

Olivia Ortega went 8 of 9 serving and chipped in nine digs for Fairmont, Anna Ehlert served 10 of 10 for one ace to complement eight digs, while Chantel Moeller added four digs.

Fairmont (2-8) travels to New Ulm on Tuesday night for another conference match.
