No. 8 Red Bulls trample to Valley Conference wrestling championship

ST. CLAIR — The Class 2A No. 8-ranked Martin County Red Bulls trampled their way to yet another Valley Conference wrestling championship on Tuesday.

The powerhouse Red Bulls stampeded the Madelia/Truman/Martin Luther Jayhawks by a 77-3 decision, flattened the Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial Area Knights by a 61-11 margin and coasted by St. Clair/Mankato Loyola via a 71-3 rout in dual-meet action in St. Clair.

Torrey Paplow, Kain Sanders and Wyatt Williamson each needed less than a minute to record Martin County’s three falls against St. Clair/Mankato Loyola.

Paplow pinned Brody McClinton in 30 seconds during 106-pound action, Sanders earned the slap of the canvas in 50 seconds over Parker Osmonson at 145, while Williamson exited the mat in a mere 32 seconds against Ben Walechka during 195-pound action.

Rylan Cutler edged Simon Kruse by a 6-5 decision at 120, Taylor Austin doubled the score on Chase Bade, 6-3, at 138, while Aden Welcome earned a technical fall in 4:00 over Lucas Vaughan in 152-pound action for the Red Bulls.

Berent Kosbab (113), Jesse Potts (126), Carver Rohman (160), Gage Cyphers (170), Riley Allen (182), Max Olson (220) and Alec Thompson (285) each received forfeits for Martin County against St. Clair/Loyola.

Potts, Austin, Sanders and Cyphers each produced pins to steer the hard-charging Red Bulls to a 74-point win over the Jayhawks.

Potts pressed Nick Firchau’s shoulders to the mat in 1:31 at 126, Austin downed Cristian Arroya in 2:26 at 138, Sanders required just 1:16 to get his hand raised via a fall over Nolan Arkell at 145, while Cyphers stuck Conner Rathman in 1:11 at 160.

Cutler contributed a technical fall in 2:42 over Carlos Flores-Lemus at 120, while Kosbab (113), Cooper Steuber (132), Welcome (152), Rohman (170), Allen (182), Williamson (195), Olson (220) and Thompson (285) each received forfeits from MTML.

Noel Davila collected the Jayhawks’ three points by posting an 11-4 win over Paplow in 106-pound action.

Potts, Austin, Sanders, Cyphers, Allen, Olson and Thompson accounted for 36 team points on the strength of falls against LCWM Area.

Potts downed Griffith Gimenez in just 27 seconds at 126, Austin flattened John Northquest in 1:47 at 138, while Sanders rolled to a fall in 3:21 over Noah Sodeman in 145-pound action.

Cyphers earned another fall by requiring only 36 seconds to down Ean Gillman at 170 for the Red Bulls, Allen pinned Ryder McMichael in 2:34 at 182, Olson breezed to a 55-second fall over Jermaine Arrington at 220 before Thompson bettered that fall time with a 35-second pin of Dietrich Rosin at heavyweight.

Cutler posted a technical fall in 4:37 over Zach Palmer at 120, Steuber earned an 11-2 major decision over Talan Osborne at 132, Welcome netted four team points via a 13-5 major decision over Alex Harnitz at 152, Rohman posted an 11-6 win over Nick Slater at 160, while Williamson bested Justin Slater, 10-4, at 195.

The Red Bulls (21-1) play host to Worthington and New Ulm in a regular-season triangular starting at 5 p.m. Thursday at Cardinal Gym in Fairmont.
