Lloyd’s double-double powers B.E. Area basketball to narrow win

BLUE EARTH — Blue Earth Area’s Ashton Lloyd has produced numerous double-doubles during the current basketball season, but the 6-foot-5 junior post player elevated his game to the next level on Saturday.
Lloyd generated a game-best double-double of 28 points and a staggering 22 rebounds to power the Bucs to a 67-63 victory over the Windom Area Eagles during Big South Conference action in Blue Earth.
Lloyd connected on 11 of 20 field goals overall, including 2 of 5 from 3-point distance, and made 4 of 6 free throws.
Jack Norman collected 12 points, pulled down four rebounds and distributed three assists for Blue Earth Area, while teammate Gabriel Torres supplied 11 points and doled out four assists.
Abram Kokos chipped in six points, while Waylen Douglas scored five for the Bucs, who hit 26 of 49 shots from the field, including 6 of 17 from behind the arc. The home team also made 9 of 16 at the charity stripe.
The Bucs outscored the Eagles, 39-34, in the second half to erase a narrow 29-28 halftime deficit.
Blue Earth Area (7-7) travels to Montgomery tonight to face Tri-City United in a nonconference game.

Bishop Garrigan 74, North Union 59 — Drew Fogarty scored 18 points to guide the Golden Bears to a Top of Iowa Conference win over the Warriors on Friday night in Algona, Iowa.
Aiden Lofstrom generated a game-best 19 points and pocketed four steals to top North Union, while teammate Kyan Jones collected 10 points, grabbed six rebounds and distributed six assists.
Teagon Fothergill hit three 3s to produce nine points for the Warriors, while Logan Odegaard chipped in seven points.
North Union (7-10) travels to Eagle Grove, Iowa, on Tuesday night.

Bishop Garrigan 68, North Union 51 — Center Audi Crooks erupted for a staggering double-double of 44 points and 21 rebounds to power the Iowa Class 1A No. 2-ranked Golden Bears to a 17-point Top of Iowa Conference victory over the Warriors on Friday night in Algona, Iowa.
Sam Nielsen delivered a double-double effort of 10 points and 11 rebounds to complement three steals for North Union.
Cassie Beadle connected on four 3-pointers to pace her team-best 13-point effort for the Warriors, while doling out three assists and making three steals.
Naomi Jones, Emily Meyer and Alivia Charlton each netted seven points for the Warriors, while Lily Henderson doled out six assists.
North Union (13-5) travels to Eagle Grove on Tuesday night.
