Late offense drives Martins past Bulls

JACKSON – The Fairmont Martins scored four runs in the final four innings to take down the Jackson Bulls, 4-3, during Wednesday night’s contest at Wacker Field.

Joey Crissinger’s two-run home run in the top of the fourth turned the Martins initial one-score deficit around. Zach Jorgenson had another long ball the next inning with the bases empty to add to the lead. He had his second RBI hit of the night in the top of the seventh, this time a single, that found the right field gap and drove in Landen Meyerdirk for an additional insurance run. Spencer Chirpich completed his fourth inning of the game to close things out. The Bulls scored two runs on a grounder from Blake Evans and a single from Tyler Netsch. Chirpich forced a flyout from JD Schneider to wrap up the victory. Josh Smith tossed the first three innings for Fairmont, allowing one run off three hits. He and Chirpich combined for seven strikeouts and two walks. The Martins have won three straight games to improve their record to 5-2. They take on the Lakefield Frogs next Wednesday at Herb Wolf Field. First pitch is at 7:30 p.m.
