Fairmont basketball knocks off Waseca, 55-47

WASECA — The Fairmont Cardinals used balanced scoring from both the perimeter and the low post to ground the Waseca Bluejays, 55-47, during Big South Conference boys basketball action Monday night.

Zach Jorgensen connected on a pair of 3-pointers to pace his 12-point performance to help the Cardinals end a three-game losing streak on the road.

Jorgensen also generated solid all-around numbers in grabbing eight rebounds, distributing five assists and pocketing three steals.

Sawyer Tordsen produced a team-leading double-double performance of 14 points and 12 rebounds for Fairmont, while teammate Jacob Crissinger connected on four 3-pointers to highlight his 13-point contribution.

Armando Hernandez scored seven points, pocketed eight rebounds and blocked three shots for the Cardinals, who posted a 39-32 edge on the boards.

Fairmont connected on 18 of 52 field goals, including 7 of 19 from 3-point range, and sank 12 of 19 free throws on the night.

Parker Link scored 16 points to top Waseca, while teammate Elijah Breck supplied 15 points.

Fairmont (5-8) travels to St. James Area on Friday for a 6 p.m. game as the first part of a varsity basketball doubleheader.

The Bluejays edged the Cardinals in B-squad play, 42-37, Monday night.

Trey Tumbleson generated 12 points to top Fairmont’s effort, while Jamie Mueller supplied five points.

Waseca defeated Fairmont in C-squad action, 48-35, Monday night.

Oliver Tordsen netted 11 points for the Cardinals, Nolan Schultze scored 10 points, while Trevor Maakestad chipped in six points.

St. Peter 72, Blue Earth Area 43 — Vinny Guappone netted a game-high 14 points to pace a balanced Saints’ scoring effort in downing the Bucs during Big South Conference action Monday night in St. Peter.

Tate Olson, Alexander Bosacker and Joshua Bosacker all netted 12 points for St. Peter, while Bennett Olson collected nine points, a game-high 14 rebounds, a game-best five blocks and three assists.

Ashton Lloyd neared double-double territory by scoring nine points and grabbing eight rebounds for BEA, while teammate Luke Norman netted nine points and garnered six boards.

Abram Kokos also chipped in nine points for the Bucs, while Gabriel Torres contributed seven points and doled out four assists.

The Bucs made 15 of 47 field goals, including only 4 of 24 from 3-point range, and added 9 of 18 from the free throw line.

Blue Earth Area (6-6) plays host to New Ulm on Thursday night, while St. Peter (8-9) plays host to Waseca on Thursday night.
