North Union softball to host region quarterfinal tonight

SWEA CITY — The Iowa Class 2A No. 8-ranked North Union Warriors will play host to the Emmetsburg E’Hawks in a Region 1 softball quarterfinal at 7 p.m. tonight in Swea City.

Emmetsburg edged Sibley-Ocheyedan, 5-3, during Tuesday’s first-round playoff game to advance.

Fairmont American Legion baseball game rained out

FAIRMONT — The Fairmont American Legion Post 36 baseball team’s game against Worthington on Tuesday night was rained out.

Fairmont returns to action Thursday, July 15, when it travels to New Ulm for a 7 p.m. regular-season game.

WBE to host Sub-District ‘C’ legion baseball tournament

BLUE EARTH — The Winnebago American Legion Post 82/Blue Earth Post 89 baseball team will play host to the sub-district ‘C’ tournament Thursday through Sunday at Veterans Memorial Field.

No. 4-seeded Welcome/Sherburn faces No. 5 Madelia at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, with No. 2 United South Central playing No. 3 Minnesota Lake at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The losers of those two games then play at 5:30 p.m. Friday in an elimination game, while the winner between Welcome/Sherburn and Madelia plays No. 1 Winnebago/Blue Earth at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.

The event continues at 10 a.m. Saturday and ends on Sunday afternoon.
