Cardinals edge Saints

ST. PETER — The Fairmont Cardinals boys tennis team dual meet with the St. Peter Saints came down to the last match during Big South Conference action on Thursday.

With a 3-all score, Thomas Klanderud and Aaron Hendricks provided the Cardinals with the game-winning match for a 4-3 win in St. Peter.

The Cardinals’ No. 3 doubles netters beat Bennet Madden 6-3 in the first set, but fell, 6-4 in the second.

Thomas Klanderud and Hendricks used a 7-6 (7-6) third-set victory to escape with the the dual meet win and doubles sweep.

Cardinals No. 1 doubles players Carter Klanderud and Conner Madsen beat Bailey More and Liam Dixon, 6-0, 5-7, 6-4. Tyler Head and Blake Haugen added a 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win against Ken Ringler and Matt Pettis at second doubles for Fairmont.

Ben Hernes provided the Cardinals with its only win in singles play by taking a 6-4, 6-4 win against Saints No. 4 singles player Casey Osborne.

Saints No. 1 netter Rafat Solaiman defeated Andy Hagen with set wins of 6-1, 6-4.

Drew Elofson took back-to-back 6-0 set wins over Tony Joseph at second singles.

Will Miller beat Cardinals No. 3 singles player Tyrell Zieske, 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.

Fairmont (5-4) plays at St. James at 4:30 p.m. today.
