Relief money funds projects

Fairmont Area Schools is working on several projects over the summer using money the district has available in the form of Elementary and Secondary Emergency Relief (ESSER) funds. Some projects include a new elementary playground, improvements to the weight room and a refurbished science classroom. These are good ways to use the funds by investing in projects that will be able to be used by students in years to come.

Playground Program in full swing

The Fairmont Summer Playground Program, a joint venture between the city of Fairmont, Fairmont Area School District and Fairmont Community Education and Recreation, kicked off this past week. At its heart, the program aims to get kids outside in the summer months where they can socialize, be active and also learn through different activities. The program is being headed up by Emily Lubenow and CER intern, Lydia Steinhaus. This is an awesome program for our youth and we’re happy to see it back for another year.

Grant to fund Spanish Classes

Martin Luther High School received a grant which will fund Spanish classes for 7th and 8th grade students at area Lutheran schools this coming school year. With the growing and changing demographics in the community, it will be good for our students to get an introduction to Spanish at a younger age.
