Well beyond time to replace Obamacare

Millions of Americans already have learned that?Obamacare is hazardous to their financial health. Now, as federal income tax returns are being prepared, as many as 4 million more may find the law taking a bite out of their bank accounts.

But the process of enforcing onerous provisions of the law has been engineered carefully to ensure that not too many people at a time learn they have reason to dislike Obamacare. When that required the White House to disobey the law itself, providing various extensions and exemptions from it, Obama was only too happy to do so.

From provisions harmful to small employers to mandates encouraging companies to eliminate top-quality health insurance for employees, Obamacare has plenty of grief to go around.

Now, for the first time, the Internal Revenue Service will punish those who have not obtained government-approved insurance. This year’s tax returns will be used to collect big fines – $285 from a family of four or 1 percent of income, whichever is greater – from as many as 4 million people who have not complied with the “individual mandate.” Fines go up next year.

Enough is enough. How many more disgruntled Americans must learn Obamacare is not in their best interests for Congress to scrap the law and replace it with something better?
